Related the story to passengers aboard a paddle-wheel riverboat, of how the Hudson River was an integral part of the Underground Railroad. The boat sailed from Pier 40 around the lower part of Manhattan. Passengers were given detailed information about various locations in lower Manhattan such as the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Governors Island, the Brooklyn Bridge, etc. During the last 45 minutes of the tour questions were asked and prizes awarded to those participants who answered correctly.
Ellis Island Field Trip New York, NY August 2004
As the TRIO ThinkQuest Coach, conducted a tour of Ellis Island for students enrolled in the competition. A digital camcorder was used to record the student's activity as they explored the various points of interest on the island. The footage was then imported into Adobe After Effects to create an interactive CD in which students could click on links that would take them to websites with additional information about Ellis Island, as well as information about the native countries of the immigrants.
