1992-1998 Administrative Assistance Northeastern Soil and Water Conservation District.

I began working part time for the Northeastern SWCD in 1992. The basic responsibilities of the district clerk then were answering the phone, typing and filing, correspondence and taking district t meeting minutes. The job title was changed after a time. Most district clerks now are considered Administrative Assistants. Shortly there after I was hired as a full time employee with vacation pay and sick leave. I immediately began to improve the meeting placement. I took district correspondence for the month broke it down into short narrative form. If the board was interested in a particular letter or article it was available and all the material discussed. In 1995 I convinced the District to purchase their own computer. I also implemented a computer based bookkeeping system for the District, all of which had been done by hand up to my employment with the District. During my tenure with the District, I also introduced a computer budget sheet that illustrating the District budget status. I also was responsible for all the accounting. The District’s annual budget was approximately $250,000.00, I was audited on a yearly basis with only minor comments.

Along with the duties of District Employee, secretary for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, taking phone calls, greeting clients, filing helping write CRP, Sip Plans and Great Plains Contracts all aspect of the day-to-day operations of the office. Attended computer training to help keep the contracts updated.

The District started a quarterly newsletter with me as editor. The activity was processed in the office with no printing shop expenses.

The District has a tree program of which I coordinated. Approximately 15,000 trees went through the District Tree Barn each spring during the months of April and May. I was responsible for ordering the trees for the District Tress program. Drip supplies, grass seed and miscellaneous supplies for the District.

I attended a grant writing workshop presented by Community Systems of Bozeman Montana. After attending the workshop I was instrumental in acquiring a grant library for the local community. I also was instrumental in organizing and teaching a grant writing workshop here in Clayton of which 20 individuals form various organizations attended.

I wrote several grants for the District and was successful in approximately 90% of which approximately $50,000.00 was awarded in the County.

I was the State President of the District Employees Association for the FY 97- 98. The Association hosted a Board Supervisor Workshop state wide in January 1998. Approximately 120 Supervisors, 92 SWCD Employees completed the training. Trained 42 SWCD, NRCS, NMAD and NRCS employees, for training of this workshop.

1997 Awarded District Employee of the Year.
