EXPERIENCE
Manufacturing Intern - Visteon Automotive Systems Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, INDIA - May to August - 2009
1. Value Stream Mapping - Mapped the value stream for three ‘Instrument Panel’ product families in Visteon’s ‘Interiors’ division and identified opportunities for lean improvement.
2. Work Measurement - Used time studies, methods analysis and yamazumi charts to improve cycle times and operator loading for all the products in the ‘Interiors’ division.
3. SMED - Performed video studies to find opportunities for reducing changeover time ‘efficiently’ for Ultrasonic-Welding machines. At least 25% reduction in changeover times.
4. Layout Optimization - Created various process sequence options and brainstormed layouts for a ‘Door-Trim’ manufacturing operation for Ford’s new small car in India
ACADEMIC WORK
Measurement and Design of Work - University of Michigan - November/December 2009
Used CAD and Ergonomic techniques to improve layout and also used Work Sampling methods to improve workload for the cashiers at a small campus retail store. A better layout that improved product visibility and separated customer queues based on the no. of products bought was created and the cashier workloads were separated accordingly.
Senior Year Project - Hyundai Motor India Ltd., Sriperumbudur, INDIA - January to April 2008
‘Process study and implementation of mistake proofing in the production line’ - Implemented error-proofing methods in Hyundai’s body-panel vendors’ assembly lines to reduce rejected panels at Hyundai’s end.
Design and Fabrication Project - SVCE - January to May 2007
‘Fabrication of Fiber-Glass Automobile Roof panel’ - Fabricated, as a team, a fiber-glass roof panel for a car, to test advantages from reduced center of gravity and low cost.
Summer Project - Ford India Ltd., Chennai, INDIA - June 2006
‘Benchmarking parts of HVAC system’ - Created a BOM of parts of the HVAC system for a current Ford car model and documented them for benchmarking activity by the company.
