Duties : Certified as Consultant and Trainer of Saudi Council for Health Specialties
Oct 2000.
1. Educator:
i. The Departmental Representative in Medical Education Committee, discussing all problems concerning education, e.g. Facilities, time, personnel.
ii. Preparing the schedule with the trainee residents for the half-day release activities.
iii. Supervisor for Trainees Residents in the research project.
iv. Teaching final year candidates, preparing for Saudi and Arab Board Family Medicine Examination and MRCGP, e.g. CRQ, MEQ, MCQ, OSCE, oral and data interpretation and simulated surgery.

II. Clinical Duties:

The largest military base in the Kingdom is in the Northwest region. The hospital is situated within the military cantonment and is designed to serve the military and civilian personnel of the Ministry of Defense. It is also the tertiary referral centre for all ministry health hospitals in the vicinity. It is a 450-bed hospital, properly equipped and well staffed with all the specialties including cardiology, cardiac surgery and renal transplantation units. Academic activities are regular and continuous at departmental levels and in the hospital at large. It is a center for Saudi Board training in all the specialties and an overseas examination center for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (DCH, FRCS).
The Family Medicine Dept is the largest department in the hospital, which comprises of 100 doctors (12 Consultants & 88 GPs). More than 8 peripheral clinics with 24 hours coverage in seeing all types of cases .
Chronic cases in the Chronic Diseases Clinic (Asthma, hypertension, DM).
Routine cases (URTI, tonsillitis, Otitis Media, Gastro enteritis – as walk-in patient)
All pediatric cases (including those coming for immunization).
Working as a Consultant:
Having at least one day/week as consultant in charge (supervision and administration of all clinical for junior staff). Seeing different cases and refer cases to other specialties.

Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital
Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital is not a tertiary hospital, but one of the two health institutes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and houses the most advanced cardiac centre in the Gulf area. It has a capacity of 960 beds and receives referrals from the whole Kingdom. Moreover, it is an academically very active hospital, being a postgraduate training body for the Arab and Saudi Board Training Programs. In addition, it is an overseas examination centre for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
It is the biggest department in the hospital having around 160 doctors:
20 – Consultants
30 – Senior Registrars
60 – Registrars
50 – SHO
This includes emergency services.
I was involved in running Child Welfare Clinic seeing with my colleagues (3 doctors & health visitor) around 80-100 babies daily performing clinical check-ups, detecting congenital anomalies, receiving referrals from the health visitors within the clinic, giving immunization to all babies and performing pre-school check-ups.
In the Main Department:
i) Seeing patients with appointments, e.g., diabetes, hypertension, depression, infertility, asthma and other common problems.
ii) Seeing walk-in patients with upper respiratory tract infections, acute tonsillitis, vaginal bleeding, pneumonia, heart failure, gastroenteritis and dehydration.
iii) Referral of patients to other departments, e.g., emergency cases or routine cases.
iv) Involved in Continuing Medical Education activities, e.g., case presentations, etc.

Job description:

Khartoum teaching Hospital is the teaching hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Khartoum. It is a tertiary referral 1000 beds hospital uniquely staffed and well equipped for teaching purposes. Administratively, it belongs to the University of Khartoum, with its full backup of scientists and research facilities. Being primarily an educational centre, every practice in this hospital was systemic and towards the ideal. Here I acquired the scientific methodology and the sound logic in handling surgical problems. I am always thankful that I started my early training in this environment to obtain a firm basic foundation for my future career.
It is to the quality of training I had in this hospital that I mainly attribute successful solution of any perplexing question in my profession.
