Manager, Distribution Development, Pella, IA 2001 – 2011
Managed network of 70 Pella Distributor / Dealer companies across the US and Canada. Provided financial services to distributors by developing and implementing business models that were specific to each customer segment. Also managed ownership transitions through a merger and acquisition process to ensure integration with Pella go-to-market strategies.
• Improved and documented the process for ownership & leadership transition of Distributors.
• Led 40 ownership transitions including a few business startups (opened for business in less than 45 days) and several distressed business turnarounds avoiding millions in Pella losses had these businesses ceased.
• Created Scorecards and Financial Benchmarks to identify Distributor efficiency savings of over $10M per year. Also created leadership & ownership assessments updated annually.
• Initiated and lead over 30 Business Process Kaizen events including one that re-wrote the Distributor accounting systems to produce financial statements by major customer segment which were comparable among the network of Distributor / Dealer companies.
Controller, Manufacturing Operations, Carroll, IA 1995 – 2001
Served as a manufacturing operations controller for Pella Corporation. Responsible for budgeting and achieving labor efficiencies, inventory control, capacity planning, policy and procedures enforcement. Supervised accounting, IT and production scheduling departments.
• Doubled capacity to handle rapid increase in sales of ProLine products, by adding 2nd manufacturing plant. This included leading the new facility site selection team and negotiating with economic development officials at the local, regional and state level.
• Led and/or participated in over 20 manufacturing shop floor kaizen events and achieved annual cost savings in excess of material inflation plus 2%.
• Challenged and refined engineer and plant managers’ projections of ROI on $3+ million in capital additions for a new product line offering. Controlled spending to achieve projected ROI.
• Improved inventory accuracy by 20%, achieved budgeted inventory turns and reduced uncontrolled inventory.

Led the efforts to recast future distribution strategies, participated in consulting engagement teams regarding logistics of more efficient order fulfillment, created budgets and forecasts, monitored spending, consulted with 70 Pella Distributor owners and GMs on cost reduction strategies.
• Transitioned the financially distressed Distributor in Salt Lake City to new ownership, more efficiently than the prior six Distributor transitions and succeeded in maintaining an on-going operation.
• Created cost structure benchmarks by interviewing the top 10 Distributors and analyzing their results. Presented findings at the annual Fall Planning Conference to 70 distributor owners / GMs.
• Presented GMROI analysis to key National Accounts to assist sales team in securing and/or maintaining these accounts.
• Reduced National Accounts DSO to 35 days and bad debts to < 0.2%.

Served as the finance manager for Pella Windows & Doors, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pella Corporation. Also assumed roles of operations manager and acting general manager.
• Achieved a distribution business turnaround of over 10% margin points to restore profitability within 18 months by relocating the facility, trimming the workforce, improving processes and managing the process of price discounting, while growing sales over 10%.
• Increased inventory turns by 33%.
