Responsible for the overall operation and management of all control tower activities during tour of duty. Operates communication, DBRITE display equipment, air-to-ground radios, landlines, interphones, and intercom equipment in the management of air operations as required to ensure safe and expeditious movement of aircraft. Operates computer based and control tower simulator equipment in execution of duties related to training civilian or military air traffic controllers. Inputs flight plan coordination in the flight information processing system, coordinates corrections or clarifications in a manner that expedites safe aircraft movement. Directs movement of aircraft in flight and on the ground as displayed on radar indicator, pilot reported, or observed visually from the control tower. Takes immediate actions to ensure appropriate separation standards are applied and required safety advisories are issued. Issues advisories concerning weather, terrain, traffic, pilot reports, airfield conditions, and status of airfield equipment and ATC and landing systems (ATCALS). Determines air traffic handling capability during changing traffic situations. Completes flight progress strip markings in accordance with FAA, USAF, installation, and local guidance in a timely manner. Provides emergency assistance to aircraft. Performed as Chief of Training from 2008 through 2010. Developed and managed the ATC training program for over 50 personnel in the VFR tower.
Combat Airspace:
2 separate tours of duty Enduring/Iraqi Freedom at the Combined Air and Space Operations Center. Executed more than 500 airspace control orders (ACO) for over 100,000 OEF/OIF sorties. Built, coordinated, managed, and de-conflicted more than 400 immediate airspace requests. Briefed commanders on airspace issues throughout the AOR. Developed products for analysis and visual representations of physical features and geographically references on the earth. Communicated airspace issues with Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as foreign military allies.
