Legal Experience

Oct. 1994 - Dec. 2004: Fraud Manager for MDL-926 and the Settlement Facility-Dow Corning Trust. MDL and the SF-DCT are the settlement offices established to evaluate and process breast implant related personal injury claims as part of the nationwide class action lawsuit brought against various breast implant manufacturers. Both offices are located in Houston. Responsibilities as Fraud Manager included:

• Creation, implementation, and supervision of all external and internal fraud prevention and detection programs.

• Performed all legal research (Lexis and Westlaw) related to fraud issues.

• Provided support for fraud denial judicial appeals at MDL.

• Reviewed all SF-DCT business contracts.

• Assisted Human Resources in researching and drafting personnel policies at the SF-DCT.

• Member of SF-DCT Executive Committee 2001-2004.

• Supervision of staff of three. Prepared job descriptions and staffing requirements within the department. Participated in all departmental hiring decisions and interviewing. Performed annual evaluations and reviews.

• Developed fraud training manuals. Responsible for fraud training for all departments.

• Verbal and written interaction with lawyers, physicians, and the FBI.

• Handled all requests for certified copies of medical records.

• Summarization of medical records.

• Worked with outside consultants to design the fraud system modules at the SF-DCT.

• Participated in SF-DCT departmental budget preparation.

Oct. 1987- June 1991: Legal Assistant with Baker & Botts law firm, Houston, Texas. Responsibilities included:

• Drafting discovery requests and responses.

• Legal research, courthouse research, and document retrieval.

• Summarization of depositions and trial testimony.
