• Anatomy and Physiology
As a veterinary technician student I became familiar with a variety of animal anatomy and physiology. Learned anatomical similarities and differences of the major species encountered in the practice of veterinary medicine.
• Veterinary Surgical Nursing, Anesthesia and Dentistry
Proficient in the skills for day to day duties of the veterinary technician including; electrocardiograph, fluid therapy, animal behavior and restraint, urinary catheterization, endotracheal intubation, splinting and bandaging. Became familiar with surgical and obstetrical techniques to assisting a veterinarian, including the identification and use of operating room equipment. Learn how to properly set up and test for functionality an anesthesia machine and recognize appropriate drugs and their use.
• Animal Medicine
Trained in proper animal husbandry and developed an understanding of immunology, path physiology, and small animal nutrition to assist in the identification of common disease and mechanisms of disease in small, research, exotic and farm animals. Gain knowledge of large animal diseases and zoonotic diseases of importance in the veterinary medicine field through visits to large animal sites. Learned various treatments of disease as well as types of veterinary medicines and the proper dosage calculation methods for their use in animal treatment.
