Mechanical Designer
Provided defense contract award winning, mechanical designs for enclosure to house high powered defense electronics, starting with only a packaged envelope. This included the placement of connectors, circuit boards, enclose components and environmental and RF sealing. These enclosures consist of machined aluminum parts joined by a screw and glue process. All importance was place on weight, strength and thermal dissipation. Also provided complex cold plate and cooling fluid manifold designs with the utilization of quick disconnect connectors. At the completion of the design each phase, I provided detailed mechanical and assembly drawing for manufacture in accordance to industry and MIL STD using Pro/Engineer Wildfire 2.0 – 4.0.

Provided drawings for equipment and equipment racks for US Army, Army Airborne Command and Control System (A2C2S), UH-60 helicopters. Provides antenna placement and designed mounting components for US Customs and Border Patrol, UH-60. Updated cad database parts, assemblies and drawings per ECOs. Maintain drawing trees as a means of configuration management, for various UH-60 helicopter configurations. All designs were done using Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0, SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Mechanical Design Engineer
I was the lead mechanical design engineer on several projects totaling over $3.5 Billion in contract awards. I was responsible for designing from concept to completion, as well as, cost reducing, existing rack mount units and ruggedized armored vehicle electronic enclosures, hand-held and wearable electronics for military communication systems. Fabrication methods for the enclosures included, sheet metal, machined, die cast, injection molded and textile. I was responsible for providing board outline and component placement for rigid boards and flexible circuits and selecting interconnects for board to board and I/O connection. I also provided detailed 3D discrete wiring and flat cable, cabling models and 2D interconnect wire diagrams; connector and hardware selection include MIL Spec switches and connectors such as D38999 and NAS hardware. All design has the utmost consideration for EMI and environmental factors for harsh conditions. All designs and detailed mechanical and assembly drawings were done using Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0, Pro/Cable and SolidWorks 2007.

Mechanical Engineer
Responsible for the design, development and manufacture of digital set top cable boxes from concept to completion. Designed all sheet metal and plastic components including chassis, enclosures, brackets, heat sinks and EMI shielding using GD&T. Maintain CAD data base of complex cable box assemblies. Performed tolerance stacking analysis as well design validation testing. Also responsible for the selection and placement of input/output electrical components, such as connectors, button switches, and cables and electro-mechanical devices (i.e. hard drives and fans) thermal dissipation, acoustic and EMI components. Provided ECAD designers with component placement, keep outs and PCB board outlines. Other duties include travel to Scientific-Atlanta’s manufacturing facilities in Mexico to supervise prototype and initial mass production builds, and travel to supplier facilities, both stateside and overseas to Asia. As the lead mechanical engineer on six of Scientific-Atlanta largest and most visible projects, I saved the company over $40 million on the projected cost by providing innovative design solutions. Mechanical Engineer
Responsible for the design of hand-held test equipment for cellular phone radios, from concept to completion. This product was for factory use for the mass production of 35K units per day and for field service returns of 3.5K per day. Product consisted of machined, sheet metal and injection molded parts and printed circuit assemblies. Design required use of GD&T and tolerance stacking analysis. This also required constant interactions and feed with Manufacture engineers, factory workers, in-house and field technician, electrical engineers and PCB designers. Mechanical Engineer
Provide cost reduction studies and design analysis of an entire rotary offset, web-fed, new paper printing press, by reverse engineering. This process required the CAD based reconstruction and modeling of over 300 parts and 15 sub-assemblies obtained from rough hand drawings and existing parts. This also required the verification of the form, fit and function, as well as design intent of each part, sub-assembly and the top assembly. Construct layout, skeleton parts and assemblies for the Top-Down Design of large satellite handling equipment. Designed a 35,000 pound multi-axle, rotating assembly fixture. This fixture was utilized to carry and provide rotational indexing to mount the payload of the assembly 15000 pound satellite to the launch vehicles. Primary responsibilities included the provide details for mechanical mechanism design and the selection of component such as; linear and rotary actuators, electric drives and motors. Performed verification of assemblies using large assemble management techniques. Mechanical Designer
Conceived, developed and detailed a concept of a deployable wing for the Liquid Fly Back Booster. This was a Boeing Space and Defense proposed upgrade for the Space Shuttle program. My design concept consisted of a swing wing stowed beneath a fairing located on top of the mid section of the liquid boosters. The wings were to be deployed utilizing hydraulic actuators and scissor linkage system.
