2002-Oct 2006 Self Employed

Business Name: Gray’s Services

From 2002 after arriving in Port Elizabeth, the business focus changed somewhat. I was approached by Adel (Manufacturer of kitchen and general domestic cupboards) to do repairs and minor installations for them as they only do new and complete installations. I then dropped most of the maintenance side of the business and concentrated on appliance repairs & sales, the manufacture & installation of cupboards, computer sales & repairs and assisting clients with business plans and other related documentation.

1990-2002 Self Employed

Business Name: Gray's Services

First seven years did mainly general maintenance and contract work e.g.tiling, painting, waterproofing, specialised carpentry, electrical and plumbing installations. Biggest contract, revamping the "Rosebank Convent" in Johannesburg. Relocated from Johannesburg to Port Alfred in +/- 1991. Did all the Halyard Hotel's maintenance for about 5 years until they changed ownership. Moved from Port Alfred to Port Elizabeth in August 2002.

1985-1990 Sabax Keagrams (Pharmaceuticals) Johannesburg

Position. Production Supervisor / Technician

Duties included maintaining Kiefel Machine (Used to make intravenous fluid bags utilising RF sealing and very tight tolerances). Spent time in various different departments as we had to be cross trained in the event of strikes etc. Worked in Bottling, packaging, printing and Filling Departments as well, while I was there. Last couple of months there I spent in the Labs doing pre-production trials on a new product been developed. All machinery in Dept. had to be maintained by the Supervisor in charge other than major breakdowns. Had a labour force of approximately forty people reporting to me directly. On various occasions had to do online training of staff for new products etc.

Awards & Certificates

While at Sabax, I completed the first portion of the PMI course (Production Management Institute of South Africa) and received distinctions in seven out of the eight subjects. (NQF.5)

Affiliate Graduate Member of the PMI of South Africa

Successfully completed the Production Management Technology Course run by the CSIR.

Completed various other courses as well eg. NOSA, Industrial Relations, Time & Motion Study, QA&QC Practices, First Aid etc.
