SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Increasing customer satisfaction. Customer service levels at Von’s Downing location were down, running at about 8.15 per quarter on a scale of 1 to 10. Motivated staff by communicating new goals and implementing fresh training and development programs to achieve this. Worked individually with lower performing employees to set expectations and use positive reinforcement. Achieved 9.4 score at the quarter’s end, the highest in store history.
Turning around operations. Catalina Island operation was spending approximately $25/year in payroll costs to rent a golf cart to collect grocery carts throughout the town. Spearheaded plan to improve efficiencies. Initiating the purchasing of a full-size truck so that the operator was able to collect more grocery carts in less time. Achieved $25K/year in payroll savings.
Facilitating significant cost savings. Challenged with reducing staff costs during busy season (June-September) at the Catalina resort destination. Recognized that company was ‘borrowing’ staff from mainland stores and housing them on the island, costing over $24K. Negotiated with several hotels on the island to guarantee 10 rooms per week with 2 employees per room. Secured deal and saved $10K in expenses.
Designing innovative systems. Received complaints from the City of Avalon that Von’s grocery carts were “everywhere,” due to customers taking carts to all areas of the town. Met with city/community leaders and proposed a cart containment system. Successfully installed the new system which kept the carts contained in one block area. conserving time and money. Saved Von’s over $20K/year in payroll and cost of purchasing carts.
