SUMMARY
Experienced, results-oriented Six Sigma Black Belt mechanical engineer with a successful history of designing complex products, leading cross-functional product design teams, and driving new technology from concept through launch is seeking challenging role in new product development. Skilled in project management, design engineering, and vendor selection/management . Broad manufacturing experience, most notably encompassing electronics packaging and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
PRINCETON INSTRUMENTS, Trenton, NJ 2002-Present
Consultant, Epicor ERP Data Migration 2011-Present
Head effort to migrate engineering data from legacy ERP system to new implementation. This includes BOM imports/exports, rearranging BOMs for new product configurator, developing decision trees to explain product options, designing user-defined lookup tables to maintain the options, and checking the imported data for accuracy and completeness. Assist in development of configurator input screens.
Manager, Mechanical Engineering and Design 2006-2010
Directed product development efforts of team of design engineers and technicians for industry-leading high-performance CCD-based cameras and optical instrumentation for the scientific research, industrial imaging, x-ray, spectroscopy, and OEM communities. Provided manufacturing support for mechanical fixturing, assembly, vacuum processing, handling, and production process issues. Assigned project deliverables to team.
As technical lead, leveraged design/product knowledge between team of senior designers and technicians.
Reviewed new product designs for accuracy, ease of assembly/manufacturability, intended use, and cost effectiveness. Interacted directly with OEM decision-makers.
Participated in multi-department strategic development meetings involving members from sales, finance, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, and engineering to determine the value of proposed projects and introduced next generation designs.
Provided individual support to development effort while maintaining project management efforts, emphasizing thermal management and structural design. Supported design validation efforts.
Estimated labor, material, design time, and production time for custom product design requests.
Conducted personnel performance reviews and candidate interviews.
Managed the IP transition of new product line with remote manufacturing facility and updated processes and designs. Developed internal team to sustain product information and design. Traveled to site to ensure technical specifications were being maintained. Directed data merger between ERP systems at different sites.
Design Engineer 2002-2006
Provided design support to optimize heat transfer and ultra-high permanent vacuum with emphasis on design for manufacturing and assembly, as well as cost. Activities included concept definition and design, material selection, product improvement, customization, detailing, prototyping, evaluation, and transfer to manufacturing.
Designed permanent vacuum CCD camera platform capable of cooling to -80C using forced-air waste heat disposal, while integrating all electronic functions into the camera body. This reduced overall size, decreased cost, and provided industry-leading performance.
Successfully completed Six Sigma Black Belt certification project, resulting in design, handling and cleanroom process/procedure improvements, saving tens of thousands of dollars per year in reworks and returns.
Sourced and qualified multiple vendors capable of producing critical requirement designs, assuring industry-leading performance would be maintained and difficult to duplicate.
Responsible for calculating heat loads using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) when designing air-cooled and water-cooled heatsinks.
Served as interim Manufacturing Engineer. Developed vacuum processing procedures to improve production yields.
Inherited behind-schedule project and turned it into successful product offering, saving important OEM account.
