ACADEMIC PROJECTS

Antenna azimuth Position Control System Design 12/10

Modeled, designed and simulated a discrete control system that meets customer specifications for a satellite antenna currently available in the market. Improved the performance of the satellite antenna by adding a PID controller before the amplifier stage.

OFDMA Based Femtocells (A Detailed Study) 05/10

Analyzed and estimated the challenges for good spectrum allocation, interference mitigation, and the need of OFDMA for Femtocells implementation by performing a literature review of IEEE papers.

Blind Estimation of OFDM Transmission Parameters 05/10

Designed a receiver to decode the transmission parameters of an unknown OFDM signal. Derived a MATLAB code to check the receiver’s performance precision. Identified OFDM transmission parameters without any prior information.

W-CDMA Detailed Study 04/10

A study of fundamentals of wide band CDMA for third generation communication systems including layer 3 message, call set up, call drop, soft handover and hard handover, rake receivers, WCDMA (UMTS) etc. Review of the latest standards including CDMA/EVDO, iDEN, WiMAX, LTE, OFDM etc.

Wireless and Communication Lab; Data Synchronization 03/10 (Mar-08)

Designed a digital baseband receiver using MATLAB which could capture a wireless transmitted signal in order to analyze different parameters of a signal. The parameters included time/frequency/symbol synchronization, time/frequency/phase offsets, data sampling, and conversion of symbols to bits.

Circuit tuning and Momentum EM simulation 10/09 (Oct-07)

Hands on experience with the tuning feature in ADS momentum i.e. manual/automatic optimization by varying the component values in a layout for the EM analysis. Momentum (EM Simulator) feature in ADS to perform numerical electromagnetic analysis of the layout.

Optical Fiber Communication and Control Communication 02/08

Designed a model to control home appliances by using a mobile phone or a landline connection. First the data was converted into light signals, then by using optical fiber the communication was set up. Included conversion of data into light pulses and transmitting them through an optical fiber.

Light Activated Switch 06/05

Designed a switch which could automatically turn ON and OFF in the presence of light. It could be implemented within street lights, vehicle’s head light and other devices, making the devices energy efficient and reducing work load.
