SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Planned and led complex transfer and archiving of brand data supporting business unit divestiture. Sara Lee’s decision to sell its five Household and Body Care products companies in North and South America as part of its global divestiture to different buyers required a tight deadline, flawlessly executed plan to transfer electronic records to different destinations. Segregated all physical and electronic records by brand for distribution to appropriate new owners and to Sara Lee corporate for possible audit. Led team in archiving records, transferring software licenses, decommissioning hardware, and dispensing with office fixtures and furniture. Enabled new brand owners to seamlessly continue the business of each brand.
Replaced grab bag of different MRP installations with JD Edwards ERP system. The various Sara Lee Household and Body Care companies in North and South America used a mixture of modified MRP and home grown software, resulting in significant inefficiencies. Led cross-functional team in selecting and implementing JD Edwards One World ERP system in one central data center. Configured the system to serve five different companies with multi-currency, multi-lingual functionality. Enabled data center to generate separate financial statements for each company, but with the capacity to be consolidated for the Americas operating unit as a whole. Greatly improved data management while making possible the elimination of 30 full time positions and the cost of separate data centers.
Facilitated Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Served on the team that documented procedures and implemented controls for all Sara Lee H&BC business functions. Tested inventory adjustments and standard cost control cycles. Enabled each company within the group to ensure that all controls and procedures were SOX-compliant, confirmed by internal and third party audits.
Established integrated, EDI-based customer supply and data management system. Enhanced Sara Lee H&BC’s competitiveness against larger household cleaning product competitors through closer supply chain partnering. In collaboration with Sales Management, set up system supporting vendor-managed inventory and category management, increasing on-time delivery and reducing out-of-stock problems for retailer customers. Simplified buyer and merchandising managers’ jobs by shifting focus from constantly analyzing inventory and placing purchase orders to reviewing automated shipments.

Automated materials safety and poison control data management. Potentially hazardous nature of some of Sara Lee H&BC’s household cleaning products necessitated creation of material safety data sheets and a poison control helpline. In cooperation with R&D, converted paper-based materials safety documentation to a computerized database, enabling quicker updates and ensuring that current information was universally available. Subsequently outsourced materials safety and poison control for greater efficiency.
Replaced expensive third party service with internal, web-based system. Cost of outsourced processing of consumer calls to Sara Lee H&BC companies was becoming prohibitive. Collaborated with Business Applications Manager in creation of web-based solution to record, process and report complaints, comments and questions for action by Quality Assurance team. Eliminated $250K in third party costs while ensuring faster consumer responses.
Resolved warehousing and inventory tracking problems. 45% inventory count accuracy was unacceptable. Additionally, reserved racking space for certain categories of stock meant that some shelving was underused while other space was jammed. Introduced bar code and RFID systems that directed fork trucks to precise locations while updating inventory count in real time. Eliminated waste and inefficiency of reserved racking while improving inventory accuracy to 99%. Ended out-of-stock problems. Utilized more efficient cycle counting to replace annual physical inventory counts that had required expensive and time-consuming two-day plant shutdowns.
Provided Emergency Management, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity protection. Wrote and tested disaster recovery plan insuring that Sara Lee H&BC could replicate its data infrastructure and restore its business applications, and provide employee work space at a third party site within 24 hours. Served with cross-functional team in writing emergency plan documenting procedures for possible product tampering and recall, natural disaster, and government investigation scenarios. Created system that consistently passed subsequent annual tests, and ensured on one occasion that payroll could be met through processing at the emergency “hot site” after a temporary hardware problem prevented regular processing.
Introduced document imaging system. Introduced system that electronically archived and retrieved Sara Lee H&BC customer invoices, payment records, vendor purchase orders and accounts payable records. Eliminated cost of paper storage and clerical time previously required to pull, copy and replace documents.
