Experience summary Over the course of my career I have worked at construction sites, military bases, mills, office buildings, and a mine site. I have worked my way through basic training and supply training in the military, through warehousing, shipping, purchasing, material management, construction management, dispatching and supervision. I have spent most of my career in various locations around British Columbia. As a Teamster I went into new projects and set up the system for procurement and distribution of the project material. I have designed systems for control of material purchasing, warehousing, and distribution. I have also trained and supervised other purchasing and warehouse personnel. I have worked in team situations and in one man operations and excelled in both.

Work experience 1998 - 2010 Danube Electric Ltd. Burnaby, BC

Service Manager

Danube is an electrical contractor specializing in maintaining production equipment such as printing presses. My position was at the hub of operations. I took the customers calls, prioritized and assigned them to our technicians. I purchased the required materials and parts to get our customers operating as soon as possible (e.g. motors, drives, relays, electronics, cable, etc.). Once the work was completed I processed the work orders by entering the hours, material, and editing the descriptions. I also produced quotes and reviewed the jobs for performance and profit margin. When I was hired there were no systems in place, a new computer system had just been purchased and I designed all the control and tracking systems for my purchasing and dispatching roles.

1996 - 1998 Whalen/Cantel Vancouver, BC

Materials/Construction Manager

On a contract with Whalen/Cantel I was tasked with the control and distribution of the material required to build the cellular telephone cell sites. Given the guidelines I developed and implemented a system for tracking and insuring timely arrival of all the material and equipment for the sites. Once that had be established and running smoothly I was moved up to a construction manager’s position to oversee the construction on various cell sites around Greater Vancouver. I was also on the inspection team to verify the built sites were up to spec.

1983 - 1996 CFB Chilliwack Chilliwack, BC

Storesman/Buyer

I worked for a few years in various term positions as a storesman then a buyer. While in the storesman position I did all the warehousing jobs including shipping, which required WHMIS training. I was hand picked by the procurement officer to move up to a purchasing position because he was impressed with my abilities and work ethic. I progressed quickly which enabled me to win a competition and get hired for a permanent position. As buyers we were responsible for procuring all the goods and materials required to run a military base, which included construction material (e.g. electrical, plumbing, lumber, hardware, etc.). I also was given the tasks of controlling Government of Canada credit cards and rental of photocopiers, tools and equipment. I was the Procurement Officer’s go to person whenever another buyer ran into problems. I would be tasked to clear up the backlog and coach the buyer on techniques for working efficiently. I was the relief supervisor during my supervisor’s absences.

1977 - 1983 Dillingham/Atkinson-Comm. Various, BC

Teamster Warehouseman/Warehouse Forman

I started, operated, and closed down warehouses on major construction sites around British Columbia. My responsibilities consisted of purchasing, storing, tracking, and issuing of the construction materials and tools for the projects.

My first assignment was in Prince Rupert on the pulp mill upgrade project. I took over the warehouse position and stayed on until the project was complete.

My next assignment was on a new natural gas scrubbing and pumping station near Chetwynd where I was in charge of the warehouse from the start to its completion.

I then went to Powell River to another pulp mill expansion where I added supervising tradesmen, who worked in the warehouse, to my responsibilities.

That was followed by a new TMP mill in Quesnel, a stint at the home warehouse in North Vancouver, and a vacation relief at a dam in Trail. My final assignment was at the Tumbler Ridge coal project, where I worked the warehouse for the mining crew that dug the railway tunnels.

1974 - 1977 CFB Chilliwack Chilliwack, BC

Supply Technician (Private)

I did the standard military basic training in Cornwallis, NS, which was followed by trades training in Borden, ON, as a Supply Technician. I was the top recruit in basic training and tied for the top marks in trades training. I was then assigned to CFB Chilliwack where I did on the job training in warehousing and purchasing procedures where I had the top marks in every assignment.

My training also included standard military training in weapons, marching, base defense and other related military duties.
