Duties and Responsibilities

• Transcribes recorded dictation and handwritten reports (medical, operative, ophthalmological, discharge summaries, EEG reports, as well as disability reports).

• Responsible for verifying accuracy of the dictator in patient’s identification and entering this information on prescribed forms.

• Follows specified procedures for dispatching finished reports to designated areas within the hospital and/or physicians.

• Rotates with other transcriptionists on a daily basis in communicating with patient’s, answering inquiries and dispatching medical reports, while maintaining at the same period of time, the daily transcription routine.

• Filing reports, which are typed without files and filing out guides for dictated reports.

• Pulling files (physician’s research studies, deficiency files for completion by physicians and files for transcribing dictation).

• Maintains daily work log of everything typed and enters in the Computer Logbook, which serves as the central file system for all typed reports, also logs other work performed.

• Notifies supervisor of problems with equipment, dictation or handwritten reports.

• Rotates with other transcriptionists in the department for secretary and supervisor’s post in their absence or vacation.

• Performs other work of the department, as requested.
