• Served as an executive assistant to the Staff Judge Advocate.
• Drafted and reviewed all correspondence for the Staff Judge Advocate, determining precedent items needing attorney intervention, as opposed to being sent directly to other areas in the work center, or handled personally.
• Received and/or intercepted all calls, visitors, and correspondence soliciting a wide variety of information, while providing desired information when requests fall within the scope of knowledge and authority.
• Independently prepared and maintained Staff Judge Advocate calendar; scheduled appointments and meetings based on current issues of importance, and personal knowledge of the Staff Judge Advocate workload.
• Reminded Staff Judge Advocate of such appointments and briefs the Staff Judge Advocate on the matter to be considered prior to the scheduled meeting. Rescheduled appointments when apparent that the Staff Judge Advocate will not be readily available.
• Provided administrative support to the Legal Department Civil Division in providing responses to the requests for the proper release of official information through the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth’s Release of Information Program, providing legal guidance to hospital staff under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Privacy Act, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Analyzed requests, maintained accurate files, and prepared prompt and appropriate responses to requests for the release of official information.
• Provided administrative support for Naval Medical Center Portsmouth’s Government Ethics program, ensuring command compliance with Government Ethics statutes and regulations applicable to Navy commands.
• Maintained accurate files on proffers of Non-Federally Funded Travel, Gifts to the Navy, other Gifts to the Command, Annual Financial Disclosure and related Government Ethics training, Fundraising, and other ethics related issues.
