Worked in teams of hikers to isolate tagged Martens using radio telemetry and triangulation with Yagi antenna and receiver.

Black Bear Trapping Season Volunteer May 2011- July 2011

Participated in a crew of 3-4 in 8-day rotations to trap black bear for purposes of population monitoring out of a remote and rustic field camp.
Established and maintained a trap line consisting of up to 110 Aldrich-style foot snares using ATV’s and 4-wheel drive trucks.
Learned how to spot black bear sign (tracks, scat, rubbings, scratches).
Captured and handled 54 bears, 7 moose, a coyote, and a raccoon.
Handling included immobilizing with a pole syringe, recording morphological data, collecting DNA sample and premolars (for aging), ear tagging, tattooing, and equipping females with radio collars.
Duties also included record keeping, light truck and ATV maintenance, and telemetry.
