Responsible for generating company revenue while managing the daily activity of 21 inside/outside territory sales representatives throughout the United States and Canada. Gardenlife Inc. does business under the name of Grimes Horticulture and is one of the leading seed, plant and supply brokerage companies within the bedding, landscape and commercial plant industry. In all, Grimes represents 160 vendors/suppliers with annual sales in excess of $18 million. This past year seventy-eight percent of direct reports equaled or exceeded their sales goals while this year that mark is at eighty-three percent. As a key manager in a multi-facet, progressive high-paced company that sees profit margins in the 24%-42% range, Robert manages 7,000 retail/whole sale accounts, providing sales support, B2B sales training and strategic leadership while applying various business development methods, sales and forecasting metrics, and realizing further in-roads on market share. TNT Publications LLC is a niche consumer products publisher that focused its distribution and advertising sales business within multiple sectors including government, hospitals, retailers, non-profits, schools, automotive dealerships, museums/the arts, financial institutions and ad agencies. As a multi-tasker, Robert oversaw the company’s revenue growth by 500% in just six years while helping o transform the company after three acquisitions, making it a regional player. This included getting TNT involved in member networks that produced national account revenue. 06/2001-03/2003 - Delaware County Agricultural Society – Delaware, Ohio

General Manager

DCAS is a 146-acre expositions facility that contributed $60 million annually to the Central Ohio economy. Events include a week of Para-Mutual Grand Circuit racing including the world-famed Little Brown Jug, which attracts visitors and participants from all over the world. Many events included large-scale auctions, commercial agriculture events, government clinics and heavy equipment sales. Additionally, the grounds played host to the second largest county fair in Ohio which is also ranked sixth nationally. More than 300 horses board and train at the facility year-round, which is one of the largest in the mid-west. As the leader of the organization who reported to an 18-member board, Robert oversaw the financial reporting and state auditing for a $10 million annual budget. Additional responsibilities included multi-facet vendor, ride and event contracts, a $5 million line of credit use, insurance liability, capital outlay and grounds improvements, supervisory, benefit administration and hiring of a year round staff and temporary employment. Robert was able to generate $250,000 in additional sponsorship revenue, increase facility events by 30%, which produced a net return of $500,000 in new business. These funds were allocated for new and improved structures on the grounds. Additionally, Robert oversaw the transition of a mostly manual operation with new technology advancements of which saved $80,000 in payroll while automating an 18,000-seat ticket arena.

12/1995-06/2001 - The United States Trotting Association – Columbus, Ohio

Advertising Director and Director of Corporate Sponsorship

The USTA is the Standard-bred breed registry for 75,000 horses and regulatory governing body for the harness racing industry and its 65 racetracks. Robert was responsible for the trade publications, advertising sales, marketing and sponsorship programs for the associations 28,000 members. Success included generating seventy-percent more annual revenue over five years from clients such as Bayer, Ford Dodge, Purina Mills, GMC, Pfizer, Sooner Trailers, GM, 3M, Boehringer Inglehein and more. Many of these relationships were forged at tradeshows, B2B meetings and working with product development companies and marketing departments that targeted the industry.

9/1991-12/1995 – Scioto Downs Inc. – Columbus, Ohio

Director of Group Sales & Marketing

Scioto Downs is a large harness racetrack that hosted 131 days of racing each year and 480,000 patrons with $80 million in gross annual sales. In charge of group sales, Robert realized $15 million in sales from soliciting and securing 770 groups annually. Additionally, Robert oversaw buying, implementation including creative work for a $1.5 million media and marketing budget that encompassed radio, print, TV, six half-hour TV programs and a host of successful special promotions.
