Summer 2007-2008: Jefferson Alumni Hall department of Cell Biology and Pathology. with Dr. Gyorgy Hajnoczky (M.D, PhD). The outer mitochondrial membrane contains three isoforms of the VDAC (voltage-dependent-anion-channel). Using knockout MEFs (mouse embryonic fibroblast cells), the roles of these channels can be studied using fluorescent indicators and an imaging system to monitor intracellular calcium and calcium uptake by the mitochondria.

Transfection through electroporation
Operating imaging system
Working with intact and permeabilized cells
Immunocytochemistry
