Education:
Keene State College
Keene, NH
Years Attended: 2008-2012
Graduation Date: May 5, 2012
Majors: Double major: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
Bachelor of Science in Biology
Overall GPA: 3.064
Research Experience:
• Spring 2009 and Fall 2009 worked with professor Dr. Colin Abernethy at Keene State College on developing new organometallic vanadium/tantalum compounds using novel inorganic synthesis method.
• Fall 2009 worked with professor Dr. James Kraly to learn about the methods and instrumentation of Capillary Electrophoresis.
• Spring 2010, Summer 2010, Fall 2010, Spring 2011 worked with professor Dr. Kristen Porter Utley using the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) gene sequences to better understand the evolution of the ~260 species in the subgenus Decaloba, a subgroup of passionflowers.
• Summer 2010 I attend the NSF Second Annual Undergraduate Plant Systematics Workshop At Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden from August 9-19th 2010. The point of the workshop was to learn the methods of studying plants and their evolutionary relationships by using techniques such as field work, extracting DNA, PCR, DNA sequencing, preparing anatomical slides, and SEM of pollen grains.
• Summer 2011 I had an internship at Keene State College with Dr. Nora Traviss with the Center of Biological Research Excellence (COBRE) and New Hampshire IDeA Network of Biological Research Excellence (NH-INBRE) grants that went from June 1, 2011 to August 12, 2011. The point of the project was to compare particulate matter from diesel with particulate matter from biodiesel looking at different metrics such as particle concentration, mass concentration, and surface area of particles.
Conference Experience:
• Attended Northeast Undergraduate Research and Development Symposium (N.U.R.D.S) on March 27-28, 2009
