Controller

Responsible for financial reporting for privately owned home improvement business specializing in sunroom and basement systems installation. Organization did not have a controller since April 2008 requiring that financial statements be prepared from April forward. Managed cash flow, performed job costing and financial analysis, and managed banking relationship. Although only at organization a short time, closely involved in overall management of the organization including vendor relations and negotiations, as well as contract negotiations with salesmen and other staff.

Healthwise Medical Associates, LLP / Practice Management Advisors, Vernon CT 03/06 – 11/08

Chief Financial Officer

Responsible for financial reporting for up to 9 medical practices, central business/insurance billing office, and separate medical insurance billing company. Managed cash flow, budgeting, financial analysis, banking relationships while improving internal controls and monitoring of practice activities. Closely involved in overall management of the organization including vendor relations and negotiations, physician salary negotiations, and practice dissolutions..

• Successfully negotiated a dissolution agreement for a medical practice from H.M.A. to Eastern Connecticut Health Network which resulted in the following for H.M.A.:

 Nearly $375K to be paid to HMA over 10 years.

 Nearly $30K for Electronic Medical Record Templates and equipment.

 EMR support contracts, billing contracts, and a 10 year sub-lease resulting in revenues to H.M.A. in s of $200K.

• Initiated the creation of budgets for all profit centers and PMA while enhancing the budgets for the central office. Financial forecasting under several different scenarios; by practice, by provider.

Manufacturing Software Solutions, New Britain CT 02/04 – 03/06

Senior Consulting Manager

Consulting through M.S.S. at the Stanley Works Corporation world headquarters. Major project was the SAP software installation of the Fixed Asset module. Other projects included A/P system automatic invoice/P.O. error resolution and documentation as well as business area / profit center General Ledger reconciliation.

• Converted fixed asset systems tracking over $100 Million of tax and book NBV over 30 business units from various systems, mostly FAS, to the SAP Fixed Asset Module. Responsible to insure data integrity and accuracy from one system to another by managing data downloads from the legacy systems and modifying it for upload into SAP F.A.. Worked with Stanley IT staff as well as representatives of the various business units as intermediary resolving any issue arising from the conversion.

Carvel Corporation, Rocky Hill, CT 07/00 – 07/03

Manager of Billing & Inventory Control

Staff includes staff accountant, team leader, and 3 billing associates. Responsible for tracking production from 6 manufacturing facilities into 125 delivery trucks to customers through billing process. Determined actual costs, BOM and standard costs variances, and reconciled EOW/monthly physical inventories for raw materials, WIP, and finished product. Generated weekly invoices for over 500 wholesale customers for nearly 1 million dollars at retail per week.

• Member of the management team that after a review of a variety of systems selected the new manufacturing and financial reporting software system (Best Systems). Also designed implementation program for all production facilities, as well as performed system conversion from J.D.Edwards and Lotus Software to Best with Crystal Reports via data and account mapping, screen design, and writing new processing procedure manuals for staff and the production facilities.

• By working with Billing Team Leader & staff, eliminated a two month billing backlog while implementing a missing delivery ticket / P.O.D. tracking system which resulted in outstanding accounts receivable over 30 days old being reduced by up to 10 %.

• Redesigned, updated, and implemented Lotus based product costing and perpetual inventory system by production facility while implementing new cost tracking procedures which resulted in undefined cost variances being reduced by over 90%.

National Waste Associates / Innovative Waste Systems / Thorpe Trucking, East Hartford, CT 05/99 - 06/00

Controller

Responsible for all aspects of the reporting and processing for all aspects of a waste management brokerage company (N.W.A.) and two rubbish/recycling companies. All organizations privately owned. Staff includes staff accountant, four payable analysts, an accounts receivable analyst and three part time support analysts. Over 7,000 invoices audited and processed monthly for the waste management company.

• Using MAS 90 software and Crystal Reports designed and implemented new repetitive invoice payment-processing system in order to reduce time needed to process invoices by over 50%.

Dairy Mart Convenience Stores, Cuyahoga Falls, OH & Enfield, CT 04/88-01/99

Successfully managed direct reports from 2 to 8 with a staff of up to 100, professional and non-professional, often with goal of headcount reduction. Trained staff while updating and documenting procedures. Coordinated projects between Store Accounting and IT. Financial reporting and analysis on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis as well as on request. • As the Accounting Department representative to the Accounting/Operations System Conversion Team, designed implementation program of the Professional DataSolutions Incorporated (PDI) software system. This software package is an all encompassing, integrated, state of the art, P/C based windows system with modules that included retail inventories, cost inventories, purchase reporting/tracking, accounts payable, gasoline, general ledger, daily sales & cash, payroll, and banking with a detailed store data base for information storage and retrieval. This two-year project included the conversion of the existing mainframe systems through data and account mapping, file conversions, and creation of procedures and user manuals as well as leading training classes for these new processes

• Converted P/R system to Lawson software from McCormack & Dodge software and implemented new procedures that resulted in reducing payroll processing by one week while improving the accuracy and timeliness of management and tax reporting. This conversion also included designing a new “front-end” of the P/R system with our in-house MIS department programmers that was later copied by Lawson software and incorporated into their software.

• Submitted amended 940/941’s and over 5000 W-2C’s for 2 years that resulted in an IRS refund in excess of $200K.

• Redesigned indirect labor, direct and indirect overhead components of all dairy plant products that resulted in accurate gross margin analysis per product sales. These analyses lead to new retail pricing for many dairy plant products.
