RESUME: EDWARD M. REISING **** Country Club Blvd. Sioux City, IA 712-***-**** ************@****.***

WORK EXPERIENCE:

July Project Manager LEAN Improvements, Program Administrator, Department (s) Director

I led people and process development for LEAN improvements in St. Luke’s Hospital. This included evaluating processes and helping departments to make changes to become more efficient through LEAN management processes. This was very cross representative of all service lines.

Started up and administrated a program in the hospital with physicians as the key stakeholders. This included marketing, scheduling, meetings, problem resolution and integrating departments with the new service line. We restructured various departments and personnel in St Luke’s Hospital to preserve personnel and the budget during tough economic times in healthcare. This included increasing productivity, and meeting projected budgets. Directed a team of managers to, and participated in the process of increased productivity through management of unproductive worked hours. Re-structured processes to eliminate waste and have people focus on productive time. This included electronic processes, multi-tasking, and stream lining of work using LEAN principles. Was the primary customer service agent for Press Gainey in the in-patient hospital care departments. Dealt with and mitigated complaints, and recovered customer service where possible.

November 2004 to January 2009: Director of Material Management and Purchasing

Through a hand on approach the supply chain and total purchasing processes for St Luke’s Hospital were modified. This included contract negotiations, capital purchasing and negotiations, and value analysis. This constituted a 10 to 12 million dollar per year oversight. Purchase order processes, inventory management, product standardization, distribution, and freight management were all priorities in this success.

During this time I and my staff maintained a 16% supply cost to net revenue ratio which led Iowa Health’s seven hospital system. We had savings of 250K per year average over a 4 year period on capital actual versus budgeted quotes. This was done through online research for best pricing of capital equipment, maintenance contracts, and diligent contract negotiations. Getting departments to follow good purchasing practice and eliminating back door negotiations and buying were key elements.

I had daily oversight of purchasing and supply office personnel on a daily basis, which included 25 staff. In this role I managed payroll, Increased employee satisfaction for 6 years in a row, and met budget constraints. I and two coordinators handled employees including promotion and deficiencies. Our team was responsible for training of staff throughout the hospital in regards to new equipment / supplies.

I in conjunction with employee health led safety initiatives in relation to all aspects of machine use, this included balers, forklifts, electric pallet jacks, needles and sharps, office equipment etc. Our team implemented numerous safety processes related to chemical THIS labeling, and storage of products.

May 2005 to May 2008: Project Manager, Iowa Health System ERP / MMIS Project

In collaboration with an IT project manager we led the conversion process for five hospitals in the Iowa Health System to an electronic ordering and supply replenishment system. Included in this was leading the process of training staff, managing cost, and directing of timelines and scheduling of hospital implementation go lives. Much collaborative work was done with Owens + Minor and IHS Distribution Center. Hand on work was necessary to re-train personnel in the functioning of new processes. Key to this success was gaining consensus between hospital personnel and software suppliers and process change.

May 2003 to October 2004: Coordinator of Supply Services

Coordinated the supply processes within St Luke’s Hospital. This included implementation of 2 new computer programs for supply replenishment and procurement. I served on an Iowa Health System logistics team that led the process to standardize products within the health system, and to create a centralized distribution center for the seven hospitals. This role called for much interaction with departments to gather agreement on products and processes. This time was instrumental in helping me learn how to get people to collaborate and see the reason for change, and help in the change process and not be resistant.

June 2000 to June 2003: Co Project Leader in Construction of Buchanan Ave. Baptist Church

Along with two other men we supervised the building project of the church and numerous out buildings. This included actual construction and hands on work, along with leading other men in accomplishing building tasks.

May 1995 to February 2003: Clinical Coordinator Cardiovascular Services

I coordinated a team of nurses (25) that cared for the open heart surgery patient. This included teaching and training of all the staff, and ancillary personnel associated from pre-op through dismissal. Led the team in implementing a new pathway process for the total care of the patient, this initiative moved us to leading Iowa in cardiovascular care and also a top 100 heart hospital designation. Completed the national data base for the first time in hospital history, and assured excellent customer satisfaction.
