of Dundee. It covers all aspects of orthopaedics and with éminent surgeons from respective

fields giving lectures. Learning the various surgical techniques done in Ninewells hospital, Dundee.

This was a full time surgical training in Orthopaedics, Traumatology and Arthroscopic procedures taught by Prof. P. Reyendors, MD, PhD. The department comprised of a blend of Orthopaedics surgeons, Trauma surgeons and allied healthcare professionals who provide trauma surgery and specialized Orthopaedic services and undertake research projects in Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

This is a 600 bed superspeciality hospital with all major departments. I had undergone training in various specialties of hand surgery, spine surgery, adult reconstructive surgery, Arthroscopy and sports medicine, Traumatology, general Orthopaedics and Pediatric Orthopaedics.

I underwent training for Diploma Orthopaedics (from August 1992 to March 1994) I underwent a structured training program with six monthly rotations in the specialized units of Hand Surgery, Pediatric Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, and Trauma surgery. This included:

1 Training in taking an adequate history of patients, doing a thorough physical examination and directing specific investigations, offering a differential diagnosis, discussing various modes of treatment and communicating with the patients and their relatives.

2 Training to perform minor and major Orthopaedics subspecialty surgical procedures and management of Orthopaedics emergencies.

3 Taking active part in paper presentations, organizing symposiums, Journal club meetings and CME programs as part of the postgraduate training.

4 My Orthopaedics research project during my DNB training was titled “Immediate internal fixation and free flap for type 3 open tibial diaphyseal fractures”

Specialist Orthopaedic surgeon in the department of Orthopaedics, Medical Trust Hospital, Ernakulam, Kerala, India. This was a six hundred bedded tertiary referral centre and teaching hospital. Our department had two units with the full time services of two consultants and four junior consultants (me included) and four Orthopaedic postgraduate trainees. My responsibilities included:

1 Helping the consultant run the outpatient department, day to day care of in-patients, pre-operative assessment and communication with patients and relatives.

2 Assist consultant in various major Orthopaedic procedures and be the first surgeon during all basic trauma surgeries and primary Arthroplasty.

3 In charge of the mortality and morbidity presentations during the hospital grand rounds.

4 To conduct trauma audits and preoperative audits

5 Present the departmental activities during the monthly hospital meetings.

6 To take classes for the Orthopaedic trainees, emergency room doctors and staff regarding the Orthopaedic procedures
