Research Experience
2009-present Senior Scientist/Laboratory Manager at Georgia Institute of
Technology.
Lead my own research projects involving wound healing and scar formation, particularly in the area of pulmonary fibrosis progression and treatment. As senior scientist, this pertains to not only several projects as lead researcher, but also assisting graduate students and post-doctoral associates with their projects as well. Additionally serve as laboratory manager & safety officer: maintaining ordering, financial records, safety training and compliance. Gained extensive experience in western blots, molecular cloning, qPCR, protein purification, recombinant protein generation, mammalian and bacterial cell culture, SPR, animal studies, primary cell isolation and mammalian transfection, among other biomedical engineering, biochemistry and molecular biology techniques.
1999-2002 Graduate Research at the University of Georgia.
Led my own molecular biology-based research project, which resulted in morphological mutants in the antibiotic-producing strain of bacteria of the genus Streptomyces. Mutants were created through in vitro insertional mutagenesis of a genomic library, which where then reintroduced into a living cell. Gained extensive knowledge of molecular biology, genetic and microbial laboratory techniques. Served as laboratory coordinator; instructing new students, ordering and organizing materials, coordinating use of equipment, and so forth.
1999 Research Assistant at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Worked alongside Dr. Mark Q. Benedict on creating mutations in the mosquito genus, Anopholes, the vector of the malaria parasite. Mutations were evaluated to determine if they interfered with the vector ability to carry and transmit the parasite. Developed skills in molecular laboratory techniques, biological research and understanding of biological terms and disease pathways.
Teaching Experience
2005-present Part-time Instructor at Georgia Perimeter College.
Teach a Human Anatomy and Physiology lab course. Create my own lecture materials and assessments (both traditional and performance based) of students.
2003-2009 Secondary Science Educator at Northgate High School.
Taught Biology, Advanced Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Forensics and Physical Science. Developed my own lesson plans based on the curriculum outlined by the state. Also responsible for assessing student achievement via a variety of methods. Extensive record keeping ability was developed to keep track of grades, attendance, discipline, materials issued and so forth.
