INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR / TD, Various Bay Area FX Studios, 2005 - 2010 California Academy of Sciences - Planetarium show Lead 3D Modeler
Supervised modeling and sets layout of the new Academy of Sciences museum building, the adjacent park and several city monumental buildings. Recruited and mentored two entry-level modelers. The Planetarium show was rendered for a large dome screen, six simultaneous digital projectors for a total of a 4k resolution.
The Orphanage - Matchmove Department Lead, Set Previsualization and Modeling
Matchmove Department Lead on the Warner Brothers 2006 feature film “Superman Returns”. Managed & supported a team of 8 matchmove artists in charge of several key sequences. Responsible for Lidar set models, survey data and matchmove CG environments. Involved in procedure/pipeline refinements. Did modeling and some shading of the highway system in the 2007 ”Live Free or Die Hard”. In addition, Previsualization of animation & sets on the Chinese produced ”The Battle of Red Cliff” double film.
Lucasfilm Animation - Previz/Layout
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, full animated CG, HDTV episodes turned into a 2008 feature film. Laid out cameras, staged all characters and props, animated bullets, camera moves, shakes and lenses.
TIPPETT STUDIO - Match Move technical director
Match move TD on feature films "Spiderwick Chronicles", “Bedtime Stories”, “Drag me to Hell”, “Priest” & “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”. Matched 3D camera moves, lenses, digital puppets and all other elements. Responsible for modeling shadow objects and multiple set sections to assist other matchmovers on their tasks.
PIXAR ANIMATION STUDIOS, Emeryville, California 02/2000 - 08/2004 Pixar University - Taught a Set Dressing class: Overview of the dressing pipeline, file structure, standards and
dressing/layout tools. Analyzed sample productions images for their dressing context and composition.
"One Man Band” opened for 2006’s “Cars” - After documenting a layout/set-dressing plan, I modeled and staged this Academy Nominated short film’s whole town set. The town, which includes about one hundred buildings and other urban architecture set elements, was constructed from just one dozen unique elements with modeling and shading (surface) variations.
"The Incredibles" 2004 – Winner of two and nominated for Four Academy Awards: Pre-visualized, modeled and articulated eight of the movie sets including the family house exterior architecture and four hero cars. Led the car building team. Mentored new joining modelers and documented modeling/articulating procedures and guidelines. Also laid out and set dressed two jungle/foliage sequences.
"Finding Nemo" 2003 Academy Award Winner for Best Animated Feature: Modeler and set dresser. Sculpted 3 human characters, props (Tiki Heads, etc) and laid out the dentist's office and waiting room.

IMAGEMOVERS DIGITAL (Disney), Novato, California 03/2010 - 11/2010 Training Department – Digital Trainer Teaching proprietary pipeline procedures and workflow. Helped develop the curriculum and taught lookdev for Surfacing TDs. Also helped develop and taught IMD’s Maya/proprietary Lighting pipeline & workflow.
TIPPETT STUDIO, Berkeley, California 11/1998 - 02/2000 Match Move artist Match moved the 2000 feature films "Mission to Mars", the Academy Award nominated for Special Effects "Hollow Man", and DreamWorks' 1999 "The Haunting". Matched 3D camera moves, lenses, digital puppets and all other elements. Responsible for modeling shadow objects of an interior design gothic architecture. Was instrumental in development and documentation of proprietary tools and batch scripts. Modeling, camera and puppet animation all done in Softimage 3D.
RT-SET America Inc., New York, New York 1/1998 - 11/1998 Manager of Creative Services Responsible for training, documentation and installation of Real Time Virtual Studio Sets for broadcast television. Taught classes in North and South American broadcast studios. Training typically had to accommodate studio staff of different technical (and sometimes none technical) background. Being an international operation, we also taught culturally diverse student groups. Advised North and South American clients on low and mid-polycount modeling of virtual studio sets and real time texture mapping techniques.
NAMCO HOMETEK Inc., San Jose, California 3/1995 - 8/1997 Senior 3D Artist Modeled high and low resolution creatures for the first 3D Pac-man Sony Playstation title. Animated the creatures for both real-time animation and cut scenes, using Alias/Wavefront's Kinemation. Actively mentored and trained all new artists while serving as liaison to programmers. Hired as a junior and promoted to a senior 3D Artist position. Participated in defining proprietary tools and maintaining 10-networked SGI machines.
