- Participated as a key person in JCIA accreditation for many hospitals in the region.

From Nov. 2005 till November 2010:
GCC (Arabian Gulf Countries Council) & WHO (World Health Organization) Collaborating Center of Infection Control – Environmental Health & Occupational Safety section, Located at King Abdulaziz Medical city – king Fahad Hospital for National Guard: I Work as the only Medical Environmentalist in the region, in the position of Acting Director Environmental Health & Occupational Safety who was assigned to achieve the followings:.
1- Legislations
Updating the Environmental Health Manual for NGHA Hospitals
I was assigned to study the new GCC law that regulates the Medical waste, I have submitted a report about how it can be implemented in NGHA hospitals, and I drafted memos to the concerned Departments.
Edited many policies and Procedures some of them can be found in NGHA network such as:
- Infectious waste management
- Environmental Preferable Purchasing
- Environmental Impact Assessment in Health Care Organizations
2 - Business Development: I have participated in developing the business between our hospitals and other private hospital in regard of marketing our environmental services such as water sampling and analysis for dialysis patients, we have signed contract with Riyadh Care Hospital
3- Air Quality
Started the air quality program, so we started the sampling program for the following :
3.1 Biological air Sampling:
Following CDC Guidelines in sampling immunocompromised patients’ areas after constructions, and before releasing the ward for patients’ occupancy, we are targeting fungi such as fumigatus aspergillus.
3.2 Toxic chemicals, and pollutants
NO, NO2 in NICU wards, guaranteeing the PEL under 1ppm
Xylene in Histology Department, Guaranteeing the PEL under 100 ppm.
Sampling most of the VOC with VX500 Photo Ionization detector.
Sampling most of toxic gas that are potential in Medical Field such as, CO, CO2, NH3, and many others using ITX gas samplers.
Silica in dental lab, which can cause silicosis disease.

4- Auditing
Started auditing in the Lab using the OSHA based Checklist, in addition to CAP documents as a reference for standards.
5- HAZMAT
Started educating the Lab staff on Chemical Hygiene Plan, More than 380 Lab Staff been trained on CHP elements including the followings:
• Chemical Fume hoods: Specifications, certification, work practices
• Chemicals Compatibility: MSDS, and reactivity.
• PPE program:
- Respiratory Program: Selection, use, Maintenance, storage
- Gloves: Latex, alternatives, selection of the chemical resistance gloves.
- Labeling requirement: I was the NGHA Chairman of Environmental Hazard Signage Committee that worked on unifying the hazard signage for National Guard Hospitals in order to reach to unifying the signage standard in all Gulf Region.
• Occupational Medical Consultation: Rights, Responsibilities, introducing the availability of Occupational health physicians in our center.
6- Water Quality
Editing the water quality policy and procedure in NGHA.
Water sampling: Free chlorine, microbial, toxins especially for Dialysis water plant.
Consultant for other hospitals in water contamination issues especially in Dialysis treatment systems.
Using the departmental MILPOR lab for total and fecal coliforms in potable and recreational water.
Investigating, and ordering corrective actions when lab results are not satisfactory.
7- Occupational health activities:
7.1 Lighting measurement: in offices and other areas using lighting meters (Metrosonic), I have solved many health problems to employees suffered form bad impact on their vision.
7.2 Thermal comfort using Heat stress monitors in CSSD, Laundry.
7.3 Noise level: Conducting noise level studies and including overexposed staff in the hearing conservation program.
7.4. Asbestos management: survey, risk assessment, notification, controls, I have established the Asbestos Containing Material Management plan in NGHA.
7.5- Silica management in Dental lab.
7.6 initiated the need of having ergonomics specialist in our department, the idea was approved initially, and we cooperate as a section with Physiotherapy Dept. in this issue.
8- Community HSE:
Covering all the NGHA facilities in the kingdom including the officers housing in Riyadh that has 26 schools, PHC centers, restaurants, market, and around 40000 residents.
Covering the staff accommodation and out side compounds that accommodate ten thousands employees and their dependents, we cover the following using our environmental technicians and health inspectors:
- water sampling
- food inspection
- Monthly reporting the hygienic conditions.
9- Food Safety
Food Preparation and serving area, inspection according HACCP principles
Training the contractors’ staff
Issuing monthly report on each facility for the business center in NGHA.
Investigating food poising cases, corrective actions, work with Public Health and field Epidemiology section in our department and MOH if there are more than 3 cases reported.

Work Duties
• Leading a group of experts: - Environmental Health staff, Services staff including Hospital Staff and around 500 contractor staff.
• Key personnel in the committees (Safety & Infection Control) who work to get Tawam Hospital accredited by JCIA.
• Key person in the Hospital Evacuation Plan, I was assigned as an Observer for the first drill from its kind in the country, my part was to coordinate with the chemical warfare Dept. when they practiced mock evacuation for patients contaminated with hazardous chemicals, and when they transferred hazardous material from the Hospital,.
• I was assigned to look for the situation of the signs, fire exit doors, I led the team who corrected all the deficiencies and addressed the observation to the chairman of the Safety committee.
• Risk Assessment: member in Risk Management Committee.
• In-service Education: - Training, Lecturing, new staff orientation.
• Community Education: Participating in out side lectures, stands method of education inside the Hospital, using all available Educational tools.
• Auditing, I have conducted 4 audits about Hazardous Wastes, Medical Wastes Rules & Regulations awareness, Medical Environmental practices, Medical Wastes Reduction.
• Waste Classification; Rules and Exclusions, I established a committee to up date and exclude materials from the Waste management rules every year.
• Pollution Control: - Mercury cases Training, Xylene, Formaldehyde’s disposal or reusing issues,
• Hazardous waste regulations and monitoring the compliance with international standards. (Issuing non-compliances reports).
• Waste Management (Medical waste, Household waste): Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling).
• Ambient Air Quality: - sampling, analysis, uses the available technology and resources to improve the air quality.

• Infection Control: an active Member in Infection Control Committee; I established a sub committee in regard of Tawam Hospital Staff Awareness of Medical Waste Rules Exclusions in order to reduce the volume of the medical waste.
• Establishing and improving the Recycling Program: - I have started Paper, Plastic, Aluminum Cans recycling program, it is the biggest in UAE’s Hospitals. In addition, hospital does silver Recycling for Film Developers.
• Perform Public Health Inspection activities, health education, and advice to public and other organizations on environmental health matters as required.
• I support private schools to be environmental friendly schools; I take them as a study sample for my dream research about teaching Environment in the schools.
• Public Health Protection to prevent the occurrence of reportable disease and the exposure to environmental health hazards within the Health Unit, by indicating the hazard sources and the storage specifications, and disposal matters, like the case of improper storage and disposal of Xylene, which I corrected and helped the authorities to take the right decision and building a disposal facility for hazardous waste rather than Regulated Medical wastes.
• Saving the natural resources like water and electricity by using the available technology and Education.
• Analysis, Studies (I have two studies in medical waste management).
• I have authored the Environmental Manual for the Hospital, including all the related Policies & Procedures.
• I have a report about updating law#4, which regulated the Medical waste in The Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and Law #24; the Federal one.
• I have changed the wrong practices in Abu Dhabi Emirate regarding Disposal of body parts, this happened when I submitted a report about including the body parts in the law, and I suggested to the Authority and the Ministry of interior to coordinate with the Hospitals in order to burry the parts according the Religion of the patient, and this started to happen, and the mortuary started to be more organized place.
• Head of three units: Environmental Health (Preventive Medicine), Housekeeping & Pest Control.

• Developing computerized work force monitoring systems.
• Directing the Housekeeping and Pest Control contractors, including training the new senior staff on how to train the staff on the international Safe Housekeeping methods including how to clean Isolation Rooms.
