Application for the position of resource estimation geologist

Dear Jessey Williams,

It is with great interest that I am applying for the position of a resource estimation geologist. I graduated with a BSc (Environmental Studies and Geology) degree from Saint Mary’s University, Halifax. I then got my masters degree in Geology from the University of Alberta, Edmonton. Shortly after, I worked as a contract exploration coal geologist in Geoconsult, Australia. I then moved back to Canada and joined TerraNotes Ltd. as a geological consultant. In TerraNotes, I got involved in a number of projects in Canada, Latin America and South Africa in which I integrated geophysical maps (magnetic, electromagnetic, resistivity and radiometric maps) with geological and geochemical data (rock types, ore deposits and soil geochemistry) to locate gold, copper, iron, silver, nickel, PGE, chromium, uranium and rare earth elements. I also estimated the content of the gold reserves.

During the study of my undergraduate thesis, I worked on determining the history of pollution at Amherst Point, Nova Scotia. I used the depth profiles of metals in the sediments to estimate the history of metal loading or pollution. I also determined possible pollution sources. While doing my undergraduate thesis, I also worked simultaneously on other projects for various research scientists in the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. The work involved core logging and sampling, core photography and geotechnical sampling, mineral identification, and sample preparation for X-Ray diffraction.

My graduate thesis involved two diverse projects one of which pertained to sedimentary geochemistry and the other was related to geomicrobiology. My first project comprised determining the age of the estuarine deposits in the Shepody River in New Brunswick using stable isotopes and local precipitation. In my later project, I studied the importance of bacteria to floc formation in estuaries and rivers. I used geochemistry and microbiology to analyze and solve sedimentological problems in estuaries.

Shortly after completing my MSc thesis, I worked as a contract coal exploration geologist in Geoconsult for 7 months. This position included pegging, inspecting sites, core logging and sampling, coal and geotechnical sampling, supervising rigs, and monitoring heat stress. I also did a lot of toolbox meetings that involved understanding and applying safety protocols. My area of work was mostly in Moranbah and my roaster involved 2 weeks on and one week off. I traveled from Brisbane, the main office to Moranbah. Besides the field work, I completed the administration work such as correcting core logs, preparing cementing sheets, preparing and updating drilling summary sheets and geophysical logging sheets, signing daily drilling operation reports, and reviewing reports for our clients.

I was hired as a geological consultant by TerraNotes Geophysics Ltd on May, 2011.As the only geologist in the company, my responsibilities include stratigraphic correlation of rock types, lithostructures, alteration and mineralization (gold, nickel, copper and chromite). I design cross-sections for the depth profile of conductance zones. I am also working on developing newer and more efficient geochemical sampling and data manipulation techniques. These techniques involve relating gold values to a factor (such as another metal or a chemical reaction) that can help us to design ternary diagrams to identify mineralization zones in an area. I relate the different types of alterations as well as the structure of the area to mineralization. I write and review reports in addition to giving presentations in person and telephone-conferences to senior geologists and chief executive officers with regards to the drilling locations. I am also becoming familiar with the mineral disposition regulations and lapsed claims in Saskatchewan.

My background has prepared me for multiple challenges in dealing with problems related to consulting and exploration, paying strong attention to detail, producing essential documentation, and communicating new ideas to a team to explore new horizons and find solutions.

Thank you for considering my application and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Ozlem Suleyman

Work Experience

TerraNotes Ltd (Edmonton, AB)

Geological consultant (May 25, 2010 to present)

- Stratigraphic correlation and cross-sections of lithostructures and altered rock types.

- Three-dimensional display of drill holes and overlaying drill holes on geological and geophysical maps.

- Identification of gold, nickel, iron, chromium, uranium, copper and Rare Earth Elements (REE) targets in exploration sites through geophysical and geochemical techniques.

- Identification of fault zones, shear zones, intrusions, dykes, network of veins and alteration zones.

- Classification of alteration and relating it to mineralization through radiometry.

- Interpretations of the geological and geophysical maps.

- Presentations and report write ups.

- Preparation of metal trends in drill holes and bar charts for metal abundances.

- Statistical, alteration and mineralization (area and volume) calculations.

- Research in the exploration field which involved the integration of geophysics and geology (incuding writing of grant applications and research proposals).

Contract position or self-employed (Edmonton, AB)

Interpreter and translator (March 2009 to May 2010)

- Written and verbal translations for hospitals, Worker's Compensation Board (WCB), mental institutions, health centers, law firms, physiotherapy clinics, universities and driving schools.

Geoconsult (Queensland, AU)

Graduate exploration/ coal geologist (May 2008 to Dec 2008)

- Land owners -The project involved liaison with land owners to gain permission for drilling on their property.

- Pegging- Taking pictures of the site, marking the site with a peg, deciding the layout of the site and selecting drill hole locations by taking environmentally sensitive areas into account.

- Site inspection- Pre-drilling inspections were performed to make sure the lay out is suitable for the drilling process. Post drilling inspections were done to make sure the site is cleared and cleaned after the drilling process.

- Rig supervision- Supervised the rig during the drilling process, performed chip and core logging, informed the driller when to case off and switch from chipping to coring. I was in charge of tool box meetings, hot work permits, breath tests, and heat stress monitoring to ensure the safety procedures were followed during drilling process.

- Core logging- The core was photographed and depths were labelled. Geotechnical samples were taken when the core lithology changed. Coal was described in more details and sampled for coal quality.

- Geophysical logger- I gave details of the drilled holes to the geophysical loggers (subcontracts) at the end of the drilling process.

- Grouters- Prepared cementing sheets for the grouters to inform them of the amount of cement to use for the grouting process.

- Administration work- This involved signing daily operation report, doing log corrections, loading weather station data, preparing the drilling daily summary reports, completing log check in the office, naming core and site inspection photos.
