WORK EXPERIENCE
LABORATORY ASSISTANT, Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, Blacksburg, VA, Summer 2011 Assisted Dr. Dongmin Liu and Dr. Anandh Babu in research exploring the use of the bioactive compound isoflavone genistein on obese diabetic mice to analyze the efficacy of genistein as a preventive method and/or treatment of atherosclerosis in diabetes.
Position involved euthanizing of sample mice types and harvesting and preparing organ and blood samples. Monocyte fluorochrome adhesion assay was implemented to determine the effects of high glucose and diabetes on the adhesion of monocytes to aortic endothelial cells using calcein as a labeler and a FLX800 multi-detection microplate from Bio-Tek as a reader. American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Membership obtained for position.
Other proficiencies include the use of general laboratory equipment and procedures including but not limited to centrifuges, titrating, chromatography, electrophoresis, immunoblotting, restriction mapping, transformation, shotgun and PCR cloning, protein determination assays, and spectrophotometric analysis.
STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH INTERN, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, Spring Semester 2011 Organized daily strength and conditioning practices for varsity sport teams including men’s soccer, wrestling, and tennis. Monitored and supervised college athletes during exercises and routines to ensure proper form and technique when performing weight resistance, plyometric, and cardiovascular exercises.
Position required knowledge of human anatomy in order to correctly direct proper form and technique as well as knowledge pertaining to types of exercises and routines that yield the desired goals of different sports including strength, endurance, and explosiveness.
PHYSICAL THERAPY AID VOLUNTEER, Procare Rehabilitation, Flemington, NJ, Summer 2010 (105 Logged Hours) Aided physical therapists with rehabilitation patients during exercises that treated patients suffering from but no limited to bulged discs, torn rotator cuffs, knee replacements, and plantar fasciitis as well as the use of the McKenzie Method.
Position required knowledge of complementary exercises to types of injuries in order to communicate to patients’ reasons for performing exercises and how movements’ aided in the recovery of the specific body part injures.
CAMP INSTRUCTOR/COUNSELOR AND EVENT STAFF, HealthQuest, Flemington, NJ, Summer 2009 and Summer 2010 Responsibilities included organizing and hosting various marketing events, social programs, and gathering events for HealthQuest members.
As a Camp Instructor, organized, led, and taught various specialized camps including speed and agility, sports performance, and football as well as general camp.
