Department Manager of the Printing Departments

Responsible for all aspects of safety, quality, and production in the printing, roll stock, and plate room departments. Establish operational policies and implement process improvements to reduce the potential for accidents, ensure superior quality, and improve the throughput of the various printing presses producing liquid packaging cartons. Directly manage three mangers overseeing 50+ hourly employees in a union facility. Design, seek out, and implement coaching and training programs to develop staff, facilitate efficiency, and to overall improve performance. Work with peers and the plant manger, to develop yearly capital expense budgets and prioritize capital projects. Ensure all employees are adhering to all quality and safety procedures. Personnel responsibilities include, coaching, progressive discipline, hiring, firing, and reviews.

Most Memorable Contributions:

• Brought the flexo department, that had been closed down, back into vital production. Presently, the production achieved on 3 of the presses in the flexo department, is rated in the top 6 of the company. Production rates have reduced the need for staff once budgeted for.

• Reduced costs in supplies over the past 2 years in excess of $200,000.00.

• Continue to operate and make improvements while never wavering over a .025% in quality returns and allowances based on gross sales and safety T.I.R. of less than 1.

• Developed production tracking spreadsheets for all production departments.

• Wrote a PM Manual for operators in the offset department to further encourage the operators to take on ownership of their press and use maintenance only when necessary.

Field Container Corp. LLC, LaPorte, Indiana, 11/1988 – 7/1999

Shift Manager

Responsible for all aspects of safety, quality, and production on third shift for the entire plant. This included 3 offset printing presses, shipping, pre-press, and maintenance. Managed 25+ hourly employees in a non-union environment. Worked with senior and higher skilled employees to develop training modules, and standardize work practices.

Most Memorable Contributions:

• Worked on a team to reduce make ready times from six hours to less than two.

• Developed several pieces of equipment to aid in the set up time of the printing equipment.

• Developed training material / SOP’s for all printing presses.
