Responsible for all HR initiatives for Simon and Schuster Publishing

Strategic Oversight:

• Senior HR business partner to Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Technology Officer and Divisional Group Presidents as well as business units which included Sales, Digital Media, Supply Chain, Information Systems, and Interactive/Digital, in the United States, Australia, the UK, Canada and most recent start up in India.

• Respected thought partner to executive management on key organizational development initiatives, e.g., workforce realignment and workforce reduction/retention.

• Ensured that firm-wide Diversity objectives were part of the S&S culture through multiple training programs, attraction and retention, merit and short/long term incentive strategies, and employee benefit programs.

• Managed firm's compensation strategies in alignment with attraction and retention initiatives: merit increase management programs; cash incentive plans; sales force commissions; stock and other long-term incentive programs. Total incentive program spending of $20M annually.

• As member of the Senior Benefits Steering Committee, reviewed, analyzed and recommended employee benefits offerings; conducted annual vendor review; and selected and implemented new benefits programs.

• Provided support, analysis, and recommendations to Senior Management during merger and acquisition discussions on all employee retention, severance, and benefit plan assimilation issues resulting in significant savings.

• Led core global Human Resources functions: Benefits, Compensation, Staffing, Employee Relations, HRIS and Payroll.

Talent Management:

• Led talent management initiatives to maximize human capital contributions, focusing on the middle to top management of the Sales Division and Digital Media Department(s) through reassessing and realigning staff.

• Executive Coach to all levels of management, working with assessment tools and 360 degree feedback on both fast track and remedial issues.

• Developed programs in support of career development and counseled employees across a broad spectrum of employee relations issues --promoting retention-enhancing lateral moves and helped minimize litigation risks.

• Managed a variety of employee training programs -- company-wide Performance Management, Code of Conduct, Sexual Harassment, new Manager Toolkit, Career Development and Diversity Awareness. Total training budget of $250K used to implement six core programs for 750 employees.

Process Reengineering:

• Led Sales Force re-engineering initiative resulting in the reduction of headcount and budget by 15%, and most importantly, provided a significant increase in productivity and efficiency.

• Directed the implementation of process improvements: Applicant Tracking (Brass Ring), Time & Attendance (Kronos, Cybase and Work Brain) and HCM migration to Oracle HR/Benefits/Payroll. Familiar with PeopleSoft, ADP, SAP, Infinium and Hyperion

• Managed and implemented the employee benefits portal in three months, on budget, and ahead of schedule providing all employees with access to their benefit –related information from their desktops.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

• Point person for domestic and international payroll Sarbanes Oxley compliance and regulatory audits (both internal and external.

Director, HRIS & Services (1998 – 1999)

• Managed the start-up, in 1998, of the Human Resources Department at the New York location.

• Hired staff to support HR functions: Benefits, Compensation, in-house Payroll, and HRIS within aggressive eight month time-frame. Implementing policies and procedures, process improvement, budgets, compensation programs, and training.

• Supervised the migration of electronic employee personnel records: Benefits, Payroll and HR data to Infinium's Software 2000 (CY 99). 1,700 employees including 250 union employees were transitioned smoothly.

• Oversaw the strategic design, development and maintenance of the Employee Intranet Information Center including benefits information, forms library, summary plan descriptions, professional work-related forms, policies and procedures.

Director, HRIS Technology, New Jersey (1996 – 1998)

• Managed staff of fifteen in support of all Human Resources related projects and firm wide reporting focusing on new integrated HR/Benefits/Payroll database solutions, employee desktop alternatives, business process re-engineering, employee kiosk and intranet applications.
