SUPPORTING STATEMENT
I am a passionate teacher of drama/dance, who enjoys sharing her knowledge and inspiring a spark for learning in her students.
My passion and interest in dance and drama stemmed from an early age. I dedicated myself to learning both disciplines through years of extensive training in the physical, academic and performance nature of the subject areas. I began my professional career as a performance practitioner, developing my skills and knowledge of the professional performance industry which then lead to my interest in studying the education umbrella of the industry.
I completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts majoring in Drama and Contemporary Dance followed by a post graduate Bachelor of Education. After the two University courses I embarked on my professional teaching career.
I was appointed an ongoing position as the sole drama/dance teacher and College Productions Co-ordinator at Keilor Downs Secondary College. During this time I worked to inspire, improve and develop the drama/dance profile, curriculum and interest within the school community. To achieve this I mounted two large scale productions involving in excess of 100 students and a team of committed staff, numerous smaller scale productions and reworked/wrote large sections of the drama/dance course in accordance with the current Victorian Essential Learning Framework.
After five years of classroom practice within this school I believe I have developed into a teacher of confidence, who is happy with her achievements but still yearns to challenge herself, be inspired and continue to develop her own professional practice. This is what led me to the United Kingdom.
My goals are:
1/ Inspire and educate youth in the Performing Arts - Drama/Dance
2/ Continue to express my creativity through choreographing and directing plays/dance
3/ Progress on my identified path of continuing personal and professional development, in order to improve my own teaching practice.
4/ Create an environment for learners that allow them to grow, learn and challenge themselves autonomously towards positive learning outcomes.
