1970-1971 Paramount Pictures distribution Head Booker, Salesman. I worked in the San Francisco and Los Angeles offices.
1971-1972 Commonwealth Theatres, Kansas City, Mo. I was a film buyer for a major regional Midwest film circuit.
1973-1979 McClendon Theatres, Dallas, TX. I was a film buyer for Dallas and Houston area theatres. In 1974, I accepted an opportunity to work with Mulberry Square Productions in Dallas. This was the production, marketing, and distribution company for “Benji” and its sequels. I was a regional distribution salesman and later Head of Domestic Distribution for the U.S. and Canada. I also worked in theatre operations and marketing.
1980-1985 Presidio Theatres, Austin, TX. I was the head film buyer for a small circuit of theatres in the Austin area. I also worked in theatre operations, film buying and marketing.
1985-1988 Santikos Theatres, San Antonio, TX. I was the head film buyer for a large circuit of theatres in the San Antonio area. I also worked in theatre operations and marketing.
1988-2010 I developed Film Booking Office Corporation, a Texas S-Corp that provided booking services to over 500 screens (four regional circuits and various independent theatres) in Texas, the southeast, and the Midwest regions. I also developed a film information and data service (Movieline International) as an aggregator of multiple statistical formats, release schedules, test screening data, tracking information, box office grosses and marketing information to over 300 industry clients worldwide.
2000-2004 I worked as a partner with Hollywood Software in further development of Movieline International and developed sales initiatives with Dave Gajda, president. I sold Lionsgate, MGM and Sony International distribution as customers for Hollywood Software distribution programs. I was the chief of Exhibitor Relations to their distribution customers and began sales initiatives to U.S. exhibition (circuits and booking services) to use HSI’s operations and booking software. The company sold in 2005 to AccessIT. They later became Cinedigm.
2010-2015 I have served as a consultant to Box Office Analyst for the last five years. I sold my business (Movieline International) to Peter Brown, owner of Grassmere Partners Investments. Mr. Brown was the former president of American Multi Cinema, the 3rd largest theatre circuit in the U.S. at the time.
I am a member of the Rotary Club of Lexington, KY and a member of Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church, where I serve as an Elder.
I have also served on the board of the Friends of the Kentucky Theater and as a consultant to the executive board of the FOTK. I have worked extensively with the recent renovation of Kentucky, including developing their Digital projection and sound system. I have been a four-year board member on the Griffin Gate Community Association, where I introduced and implemented a community-wide email manager’s report, monthly color newsletter, and Facebook page and community website. I also served on various community committees and was vice president in 2013 and association president in 2014.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
1969: Served as research analyst on “Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid.” Head Film Booker for 20th Century Fox Denver distribution office.
1970: Served on the development team for the distribution plan for “The Godfather.” Sales Manager for Paramount Pictures distribution office in Beverly Hills, CA.
1973: Negotiated with director Tobe Hooper and booked the original “Texas Chain Saw Massacre” in its initial release. This highly successful test booking in Houston was the catalyst for a surprise nationwide hit and spawned numerous sequels.
1974: Served on national distribution team for “Benji.” I later became Head Of Distribution. Also distributed other titles for Mulberry Square Productions, Dallas, TX.
1979: Transported Mel Gibson to Austin and San Antonio test screenings of his first major U.S. hit, “Mad Max.” Interviewed filmgoers for the impressions of the film and created assorted audience data for the producer and distributor Filmways Pictures, Dallas, TX.
1984: Booked and created the world premiere of “Blood Simple,” the Coen Brothers' first film produced in Austin, TX. The film played for 16 weeks at the Village 4 in Austin, establishing the cinema as Austin’s best art and specialty theatre of its time. I was Head Film Buyer and theatre operations manager for Presidio Theatres.
1986: Assisted in the development and event planning for “Red Headed Stranger,” Willie Nelson’s world premiere screening and party in Austin, TX.
1988: Served as producer’s representative and consultant to George Lucas on “Willow,” a fantasy film directed by Ron Howard. MGM distributed the film and I was Mr. Lucas's consultant on distribution with the studio.
1990: Created San Francisco premiere event for “For All Mankind,” the Al Reinert-produced documentary about the Apollo missions. I was also head of distribution for the U.S. release of the film. Mr. Reinert went on to produce “Apollo 13.”
1991-2010: I became the first company to publish an estimated top ten weekend box office report developed by my company, Movieline International. The report later expanded to a 14-page weekly film report with a website. We were the first to use email “blasts” to communicate important film information to our worldwide client base. I owned Film Booking Office Corporation, a film booking agency with five employees. We booked and advised theatre operations for 525 screens in Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, Georgia, Texas and North Carolina.
2010-2015: Consultant and worldwide sales manager to Box Office Analyst (renamed company to Movieline International, which I sold to Grassmere Partners in 2010). Board member of the Friends Of The Kentucky Theatre (developed and implemented the current Christie Digital Projection system and JBL Digital sound system in the Kentucky Theater.
2016-19: Customer Relations, Theatrical Sales (Alternative Programming), Exhibitor sales for Screendollars Cinema Advertising/Screenvision Media. Co-Publisher, Screendollars Film Newsletter, motion picture forecasting, data aggregator, film information (100,500 film industry professionals). Head of Marketing and Communications for Republic Theatres (90 screens - Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky).
2020-25: Communications Director and Head of Business Development for Screendollars. Co-developer of new Screendollars.com film web site and new business partnerships with Paper Airplane (cinema marketing), Atlas Distribution and Cinema Cloud Works (independent film distribution, film analytics), Gower Street Analytics (London based international film analytics), Usheru (theatrical ticketing and filmgoer analytics) and Row8 (exhibitor branded streaming service provides theatre loyalty program customers to play first run movies online upon distribution availability).
