DUTIES:
Maintenance of diesel generator driven sets to OEM specifications. Working on engines such as: Volvo Penta, Scania, MAN, Mitsubishi, Perkins, Cummins, Cat, Kohler (SDMO), John Deere, Deutz, Kiloskar and Doosan. 3 phase electric system.
(Willing to work overtime, weekends, call/outs (willing to travel), standby, available immediately). Compulsory standby - scheduled every 3 months - for 30 days. SKILL SET:
I am a qualified diesel mechanic - (Attached qualification). I am fully capable of doing a complete overhaul of engines - such as: Volvo Penta, Scania, MAN, Mitsubishi, Perkins, Cummins, Cat, Kohler (SDMO), John Deere, Deutz, Kiloskar and Doosan.
Top and bottom end - overhaul:
Changing pistons and rings
Changing liners
Head gaskets - replacements
Tappit settings
Able to work on fully mechanical and electrically (ECU) controlled engines - I have the knowledge and experience of working on vintage (old school) injector pump driven engines. I have knowledge of setting the timing for the pumps which is with degrees. General maintenance:
Oil and Filter changes.
Fan belt replacement - inspection for cracks or any perforations. Cooling system maintenance, which includes checking glycool/ nalcool (Antifreeze/ summer coolent) levels, as well as the condition of the radiator internal and external, using apparatus/ instruments supplied. Including the condition of the radiator hoses being checked visually and by touch inspection.
Fault finding:
Electrical - Basic engine inspection:
Checking the oil pressure sender unit or switch.
Inspecting the condition off the wiring harness
- check for any cuts in the wires/ worn through
- checking the low water level switch, bridging it out to see if it works.
- checking the temperature switch for function, it must give correct readings.
- testing fuses (using a multi meter 12v/24v-)
- Inspect battery condition, checking levels using inspection glass or age off battery.
- checking for any corrosion on terminal blocks due to weather.
- testing of alternators and starters.
Dianostic tools are used to check for faults on the ECU and to clear the alarms. I am a fully mechanical, diesel technician. Due to upgrades and advances regarding technology, I have had to broaden my skill set a bit in learning some basic electrical. On how to test and fault find, I truly had to upgrade my game and learn to understand the electronical side of the diesel engine. Many engines today are ECU driven and run with electronic systems. I bring to the table over 15 years of work experience partaking in a plethora of services and maintenance in the diesel mechanics arena, having worked on a variety of diesel engines. I have worked for reputable companies within S.A, major and minor, doing the support, maintenance and services of diesel generator driven sets to OEM specifications. Working on diesel engines namely: Volvo Penta, Scania, MAN, Mitsubishi, Perkins, Cummins, Cat, Kohler (SDMO), John Deere, Deutz, Kiloskar and Doosan. I also have a good understanding of 3 phase electrical systems. I am diligent with a strong sense of urgency. I am meticulous and stringent when it comes to work. I strive to succeed in all endeavors and tasks allocated. Work well with or without a team. I believe in doing the job right first time around. I believe that I have the versatility to fit into any position and that I will be an asset to the company that may employ me. I have excellent organizational skills and work well with others. I work effectively and efficiently with or without supervision.
