Medical Director
Asheville, North Carolina
I was Medical Director of two substance abuse recovery clinics owned by the Behavioral Health Group (BHG). The primary focus was on patients with Opioid Dependence, as we were licensed for Methadone and Suboxone. I assessed every new patient, as well as follow ups when needed. I made decisions regarding the dosing of Methadone and Suboxone. I also saw patients that were dependent on other substances such as Methamphetamines, Kratom, Cocaine, Benzodiazepines, Tobacco and Marijuana.
I was responsible for over five hundred patients, as well as, the sixteen counselors and six nurses. I ran a weekly treatment planning meeting where we had discussions about the most difficult patients, status of current patients, terminations and discharges.
The difficult patients included pregnant patients on Methadone and Lithium, Schizophrenic patients with hallucinations, Depression, Anxiety and other co-occurring disorders interfering with their ability to recover. July 2011-October 2018

I started the Purple Door Clinic in July of 2011 where I supervised three therapists, three Nurse Practitioners, an office manager and receptionist. I managed patients with Substance Dependence, Delirium, Dementia, Bipolar, Depression, Schizophrenia, Personality and other disorders. A significant number of patients were referred by other doctors and therapists. I collaborated with them on a comprehensive treatment plan that included medications, therapy, and recovery.
In 2018 I closed the Purple Door and moved to North Carolina to be closer to my daughter, at Emory, who was struggling with a severe Eating Disorder. At the closing of the Purple Door we were treating over eight hundred patients.
