Work on a high acuity 32 bed Adult Surgical Oncology unit attending to patients’ safety, education, comfort, and spirituality concerns, monitoring vital signs, height and weights, monitoring intake and output, making beds, checking finger sticks, collecting urine and stool specimens, assist in admissions, dressing changes, phlebotomy, and insertions of IV’s. Transporting patients to procedures, intensive care unit or operating room. Documenting all findings in the electronic chart. Assisting in codes. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing or medical staff. Keep patients' rooms neat, set up equipment, store and move supplies, and assist with procedures. Performs phlebotomy and other procedures and competency
•Constantly monitors stock to ensure it is being utilized within the proper time limitations.
•Assists patients or other health care team members with prescribed interventions as directed by the Clinical Research Nurse.
•Reinforces patient instructions in the proper technique of various self-administered treatments and documents the activities performed with both the patient and patient families to ensure compliance to established plan of care.
•Collects specimens for clinical and/or research care, handles and delivers in accordance with prescribed protocols.
•Obtains and records vital signs; temperature, blood pressure, height/weight, and reports any abnormal findings to the clinical nurse.
•Utilizes automated equipment and devices safely.
•Reinforces policies and procedures to patient and families in conjunction with the clinical nurse teaching procedures.
I worked from April 2010 to January 2011 on the Behavioral Health Unit, both as a 1 on 1 sitter and as a Behavioral Health Tech, following all Behavioral Health protocols and documentation procedures. Maintaining a safe therapeutic environment for psychiatric population in accordance with NIH Clinical Center Nursing and Patient Care Services policies and standards of practice and supervisory direction; and implementing selected interventions and evaluating and documenting patient’s response.
