MAY-2013 – CURRENT
CORRECTINAL LIEUTENANT, ST. LOUIS JUSTICE CENTER
Enforce Rules and Keep Order: Inside the jail, enforced rules and regulations. Maintained security by settling disputes between inmates, preventing disturbances, assaults, and escapes. As an officer I enforce regulations through effective communication and the use of progressive sanctions, which involve punishments, such as loss of privileges.
Supervise the Activities of Inmates: As a correctional officer I supervised the daily activities of inmates, ensuring that inmates obey the rules. My duties also included ensuring the whereabouts of all inmates at all times. As well as escorted prisoners between the institution and courtrooms, medical facilities, and other destinations.
Search for Contraband Items: As a correctional officer I searched inmates and their living quarters for contraband, such as weapons and drugs. In addition, I was responsible for screening visitors and incoming mail to ensure contraband is not brought into the jail.
Inspect Facilities to Ensure That They Meet Standards: My duties as a correctional officer was to periodically inspect the jail facility. I checked cells and other areas for unsanitary conditions, contraband, signs of a security breach (such as tampering with window bars and doors), and any other evidence of violations of the rules.
Report on Inmate Conduct: As a Correctional officer I made reports on any inmate who violated the rules. If a crime is committed within The Justice Center, I am responsible to help law enforcement authorities investigate. As an Officer at The Justice Center I was responsible for writing reports and filling out daily logs detailing inmate behavior and anything else of note that occurred during my shift.
