Continuous critical care assessments of patient’s physical and psychological needs. Identify sudden or subtle changes in patient’s medical condition.
Maintains accurate and thorough documentation at all times. Coordination and planning of Critical care/clinical pathway and prioritizing care, National and International based on individual needs and medical direction.
Performs total patient care, including medication administration, observation for reactions or side effects, intake and output monitoring, treating wounds (ie pressure ulcer and surgical wounds), execution of physician orders, planning and implementing nursing care, interventions and treatment.
Assist physicians with therapeutic interventions and other procedures such as central line and arterial line insertion, thoracentesis, paracentesis and intubation to name some. Demonstrate appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in directing patient care. Take and interpret ECG patterns as it appears on the cardiac monitor and take immediate referrals for abnormalities.
Perform venipuncture as directed by physician for the purpose of withdrawing blood specimen for laboratory tests as well as Interpret blood gas results, electrolytes, blood chemistry and other laboratory results and recognize its significance.
Administer IV fluid and blood products, monitoring patient’s for signs and symptoms related to transfusion reactions.
Responding to emergency situation: CODE BLUE and RRT and initiate cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as the situation requires as per the AHA guidelines.
Perform Foley’s catheter insertion, condom/straight catheterization as well as nasogastric insertion, gastric lavage and gavage when needed.
Render tracheostomy care, suctioning, ambu bagging and chest physiotherapy. Advocate for patients and families’ needs or provide emotional support for patient and their families.
Set up and monitor medical equipment and devices such as cardiac monitors, mechanical ventilators and alarms, oxygen delivery devices, transducers and pressure lines. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and revise treatment plans based on identified needs and assessment data.
Prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.
Participate in professional organizations and continuing education to improve practice knowledge and skills.
