Associate Dentist 1974 until 1984 Evenings and Saturdays in a private office in Eagle Rock. Dentist

Second son Philip Turner 4-23-1979

1975-1991 Cigna Heathplans of Southern California. I was a staff dentist, performing all the functions associated with general dentistry. Over time I was given administrative responsibilities at a local Cigna office, then a few years later, I assumed the same responsibility for several network offices. After 12 years I became the associate dental director for the health plan. My administrative responsibilities included referral management, lab relations, peer review, quality assessment, and review and updating the policies and procedures manual.. Finally, in 1991 I helped close the staff model operations but continued with Cigna in a quality assessment capacity for several years part time, for the newly formed HMO Network. During my Cigna employment I practiced as a general dentist at the locations where I was needed, which occupied about 2/3 of my full time work.

Post graduate education: I am a member of the CDA and a life member of the ADA. I enjoy learning and would hope that the hundreds of hours I have spent in continuing education is not terribly different from my peers. During the years with Cigna, many courses I attended focused on the developing areas of implantology, and treatment of TMJ problems. In private practice the interests expanded to Sleep Apnea, marketing, and aligner therapy.

Spring 1991 to Fall 2018: After helping Cigna close their staff model operation I purchased a private practice in Glendale California. There I continued in a solo general practice until I sold the private practice in the fall of 2018. The challenges and opportunities were significant. Implants were a promising clinical modality which we began to offer when I was at Cigna, but in private practice I enjoyed the opportunity to develop and practice placing and restoring implants in a more robust way. After selling my practice in 1918, the new owner has employed me on a part time basis. Currently I maintain my own malpractice insurance and CDA membership. In private practice I was able to be involved in humanitarian outreaches as well. I have provided emergency dentistry with Christian Assembly on 2 mission trips to the Philippines, and at least 30 weekends in Tijuana Mexico, sometimes with Healingheartsacrossborders.org. and sometimes at a stand alone satellite location at the TJ dump, or sometimes in medical clinic. I also worked in a Methodist church project to develop, and install a 4 chair dental office in a Methodist Hospital in Maua, Kenya, Africa. I also was able to work in that clinic for two weeks after it had been running for 3 years in 1993. A Remarkable time and wonderful memories.

Skills: I can perform all of the skills of a general dentist. I have placed and restored implants. I have good human relation skills, and I am a team player. I love practicing dentistry. I am still energized by being able to help people achieve their best oral health, function and appearance possible. The science, materials and technology available today allow dentists to reach these goals, efficiently, comfortably, and the results are lasting. I have spent my professional life in dentistry in a variety of delivery systems, both as a clinical dentist and in various administrative roles . The rewards to me, to my patients, and coworkers continue to be satisfying. I desire to continue doing what I love, for that reason and for personal reasons as well. I am looking for additional part time work.. Future Employment goals: Presently, Friday and Saturday would be preferable although I am not excluding other possibilities if they present themselves.
