As a dietitian, I am skilled at communicating with, and educating patients. I have a caring personality and I think that comes through in my interactions with patients. I have an excellent understanding of medical nutrition therapy and nutrition support and continue to learn every chance I get. I enjoy being a clinical dietitian and it shows through my work.

I provide nutrition counseling to patients with ESRD on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Monitor MBD labs and adjust MBD medications as needed per MD and protocols. Make suggestions for phosphorus binder prescriptions, Renal vitamin prescriptions, and order oral nutrition supplements for patients with low protein levels. Review monthly lab work with all patients in the clinic and adjust medications as needed. Work with nephrologists and nurses closely to provide optimum nutrition care for the patients.

I provide medical nutrition therapy to patients in the hospital, including adult and NICU patients, assess patients for malnutrition, provide nutrition support for patients, attend multidisciplinary rounds daily, conduct test trays and tray accuracy of patient food, act as a nutrition resource for food service employees in the kitchen, provide nutrition counseling for outpatients for many different disease states including, but not limited to: bariatric surgery, diabetes, weight gain, enteral nutrition, and renal disease. I continue to mentor dietetic interns throughout the year and serve on the DI advisory committee for the Texas State Dietetic Internship

I developed policies and procedures for food service and clinical nutrition services for a brand-new micro-hospital. Developed patient menus and nutrient analysis for those menus. I also see patients on a PRN basis clinically and order kitchen supplies and food as needed.
Lead Clinical Dietitian Central Texas Medical Center July 2015-2020
Provided nutrition therapy and education to patients in the hospital and education for outpatients as well. Lead multiple support groups, provide educational classes and cooking demos for the community. Attended QI meetings, daily rounds, and other meetings such as
diabetes committee meetings, bariatric meetings and NICU meetings. Supervised four other dietitians and created work schedules. Mentored dietetic interns from Texas State and distance internships throughout the year. Made changes to and created policies for the department.

LEADERSHIP
I held a leadership position in clinical nutrition for 5 years. As the lead dietitian, I sharpened my communication skills with both patients and staff. I coordinated the other RD’s and was responsible for department meetings and reports. Additionally, I am a preceptor for dietetic interns and a consulting dietitian incorporating both clinical and foodservice skills.
