I have over 10 years of nursing experience in Oncology as an Outpatient Chemotherapy Infusion Nurse, Charge Nurse, Assistant Nursing Supervisor/Nurse Manager and Physician Nurse. I had a great deal to discover when I started in Oncology Nursing.

I have been in the Occupational Health Nurse role for 5 years. I manage all Standing Operating Procedures and Clinical Condition Guidelines specific for Tyson OHS office. Complex Nurse Manager

As a Nurse Manager I provide professional support, advice and supervision for the Occupational Health Services staff. My primary goal is to ensure that we are taking care of our team members. I facilitate Occupational Health Services clinical practice, and I provide professional and educational development and training of staff to ensure safe, effective team member care. I am responsible for implementing and maintaining Occupational Health programs, policies and procedures for the complex; supervising a group of nursing and support personnel; supervising and evaluating nursing care provided to workers; monitoring nursing functions to ensure nursing staff adheres to correct nursing procedures within scope of practice; attending facility management meetings to provide occupational health related updates; conducting annual nurse performance evaluations, interviewing and hiring.

We have a Walk-In clinic for all non//occupational illnesses that is available to all team members. I ensure we follow Tyson guidelines and triage all team members.

I am the case manager for all our work-related injuries and illnesses. I establish the plan of care to achieve full recovery. I set up all appointment s, physical therapy, ART therapy, specialty referrals, provide prescription cards, and perform all prior authorizations for anything that is needed. I ensure all workers’ compensation cases and records and reporting systems comply with OSHA, State, company and legal requirements; adhering to the highest standard of confidentiality; participating in facility safety and ergonomic programs; developing and coordinating health education programs for Team Members; and other duties as assigned. I have 1250 team members/employees that I am responsible for their well-being. I am responsible for monthly education topics, health fairs, and I oversee the Health Maintenance Program for all our Team Members that have an occupational illness from repetitive work. I monitor injured Team Members’ condition, treatment and progress on an on-going basis to evaluate appropriateness of treatment and to determine if plan of care goals are being achieved and established goals are appropriate. I attend appointments with Team Member(s) when appropriate per State Workers’ Compensation guidelines. I participate in discussions with health care provider(s) and Team Member(s) concerning: Team Members’ status, progress, treatment options, physical limitations, appropriateness of job placement, available resources, prognosis, etc. Assess appropriateness of current health care provider(s) and evaluate available options to identify which services best meet the needs of the injured Team Members in a cost- efficient manner. Develop plans of action for the injured Team Members, which may include contact with physicians, supervisors, family members, therapists, claims adjuster, regional case managers, etc. Recommend specialty referrals based on Team Member's condition/needs. Ensure any financial decision related to a workers’ compensation case is directed to the Tyson Foods Workers’ Compensation. I implement and maintain the Occupational Health Services (OHS) programs and SOPs for the facility. I complete the interview and hiring process and assure new hire candidates have current nursing license to practice in their state of employment. I provide orientation and training for OHS staff according to company standard operating procedures (SOPs). Conduct OHS staff performance evaluations per company evaluation process. Ensure adequate staffing is provided on each shift by coordinating staff schedules. Coordinate and evaluate daily nursing functions to assure staff adheres to the approved OHS SOPs, Clinical Condition Guidelines and Standing Medication Orders. Ensure annual renewal by obtaining physician signature for the Clinical Condition Guidelines and the Standing Medication Orders. Ensure compliance with documentation requirements, OSHA recordkeeping guidelines, confidentiality of medical records, other company records, and policies and procedures. I conduct continuous, ongoing review of records maintained by OHS to detect areas of deficiency to identify corrective action as necessary. I Set goals and time frames with the injured Team Member's knowledge and cooperation to accomplish specified plan of care activities. Collaborate with Operations Management, Human Resources and Ergonomics to determine appropriate jobs which may be performed within Team Member's work restrictions. I Communicate to the treating physician the availability of restricted and full duty work and the physical demands of the positions, which may include providing video/digital and/or written job descriptions of specific jobs. I Coordinate job placement and monitor Team Member's transition back to work to ensure assignment is progressing well and to resolve any problems that may arise. Attend facility Safety Council and management production meetings to provide relevant OHS updates. Participate in facility safety and ergonomic programs, meetings and facility walk- throughs. Develop and coordinate well health education programs for Team Members. Maintain a working knowledge of community health resources and establish and maintain liaison with health professionals in the community. Establish and enforce professionalism of staff through dress code, conduct, nursing practice, etc. Participate in continual professional development and research activities for the improvement of occupational health services. Complete two continuing education programs per year relative to occupational health nursing and which support the company’s goals and objectives. Maintain all DOT records, physicals, restrictions etc. Conduct annual hearing tests for all team members. I have put together an Emergency Response Plan and coordinate drills, Haz-Mat teams, Manage Emergency and Disaster Planning and drills. I conduct Medic First Aid classes to all of management and supervisors and have a 1st responder Team. I maintain all AED’s through-out the complex and I conduct training with all 1st responders. I maintain the OSHA logs for all our facilities, record all injuries or illnesses appropriately, and complete all required yearly summaries for OSHA. I prepare the plant for OSHA visits. I conduct monthly meetings that include Team Care Meetings, Safety Meetings, First Aid Cases, Near Misses, and provide education to everyone. I am responsible for all team members health and well-being which is approximately 1250. I am the COVID administrator. I have developed our COVID program to adhere to the recommendations of the CDC and adhere to Tyson Policies and Procedures. I organized mass testing events for 1250 team members as well as organized COVID vaccination clinic. I set-up all temperature checks on team members upon entry to the facility. I trained Temp Monitors for assessment of Covid symptoms. I trained staff on Covid testing as well as monitor all Respiratory Fit Tests and medical examinations as required per OSHA. I outlined and developed our in-house testing site and coordinated with outside laboratories to get our results efficiently. I managed all team members who tested positive, initiated their leave and short-term benefits, assisted with symptom management, and also identified all close contacts, carpoolers and ensured that they were tested and removed from the work place. I provided all the education for COVID including symptoms, symptom management and treatment, initiated medical referrals, and made bi-weekly follow-up calls. I had daily meetings to discuss the current cases with management and developed a tracking system. I ensured all sanitizers met the guidelines and placed dispensers plant wide. I did educational videos to display on TV’s in all break rooms to provide on-going education. Currently, my facility is one of the highest percentage of Fully Vaccinated Team Members and became the pilot facility for Tyson for mask removal. I had to get all opt-in paperwork, verify vaccinations, and issue special badges to show who was vaccinated.
