Job Responsibilities as a Charge Nurse (when assigned):
Competent and skillful in the care of critically ill patients
Allocates staff within shift
Allocates patient room, if an O.R or L&D, as long as there is no history of infection, patient is allocated in the Clean Room. OPD and E.D admissions to be allocated in the Isolation Rooms.
Checks the Narcotic Stock Level and makes sure that Narcotic Form is completely filled and changed before the incoming shift.
Handles patient/s according to the census/patient-nurse ratio.
Answerable to all problems within her shift and reports to the Nursing Supervisor on call
Attends Code Blue, Code Yellow, Code Green, etc and assesses the situation if it needs to call more ICU staff and coordinates with the Nursing Supervisor.
Checks the availability and functioning of equipments and reports to the Head Nurse.
Checks the daily census of the unit.
Checks and writes the IV lines of patients every 24 hours.
Checks the fridge temperature for all shifts
Checks and completes the Crash cart/Resuscitation Cart.
Checks the level of all stocks including medications and requests emergency stocks in the pharmacy.
Job Responsibilities as a Staff Nurse:
Patient-Nurse Ratio:
3:1 for supportive care
2:1 for observation
1:1 for ventilated/critically ill Reports directly to Head Nurse /Nurse in-charge
Assists in performing/performs active resuscitation to patient with cardiac/respiratory Arrest.
Takes care of patient
Prepares, assists in performing and monitors patients undergoing different procedures Such as; exchange blood transfusion, lumbar puncture, chest tube insertion and endotracheal Intubation.
Performs Nasogastric tube/orogastric tube insertion, gastric lavage, gavage feeding, Intravenous therapy/intravenous line insertion.
Handles and closely monitors patients on mechanical ventilators
Carefully/accurately monitors intake and output of patients.
Administers prescribed medications via IV, IM, SC, ID, or as IV bolus with the use of Infusion/ syringe pumps, as ordered by the physician; gives NGT/OGT feeding
Performs ECG as ordered by the physician.
Attends and performs in-service lectures competency completed.
Upgrades self by attending unit lectures and other lectures/trainings conducted by the Continuing Education Committee.
