USS Frank Cable (AS-40), Santa Rita, GU, 04/5/06 - 11/30/09

Member of the Engineering Department and Machinery Division. Steam plant operator (600lb steam plant). Qualified different watch stations and equipment within the engine room. Conducted preventive and corrective maintenance on Ship’s main engine, Ship Service Turbo Generators (SSTG), water treatment plant, and associated auxiliary equipment.

Engine room cold iron qualified while in port. Water Treatment Plant Operator and Engine room messenger while underway. Appointed as a Water Treatment Plant Operator for the Engineering Training Team (ETT), which demonstrated technical expertise and an ability to pass on knowledge, resulting in a significant improvement in the ability to train during an ISIC Certification. Spearheaded the repairs on two Water Treatment Plant Auxiliary Exhaust Flexitallic gaskets, producing no rework or supervision required. Assisted in the nine-hour emergent repair on the Main Engine Low Pressure Turbine Journal Bearing after a no oil flow casualty, placing the main engine back to 100% capacity. Contributed to the overhaul of the High-Speed Coupling to one of the Ship’s Service Turbine Generator, which restored the vital piece of equipment to 100% operational readiness. Committed thirty-hours in removal, overhaul, installation, and testing of a Freshwater Drain Collecting Tank Pump, restoring redundancy and efficiency to the condensate system. Instrumental in the inspection and maintenance of two Water Treatment Plants, led a team of four in removing access covers, inspecting the six-stage plant for leaks, and changing out faulty gaskets on the Auxiliary Exhaust Steam Inlet Valves. Played a key role in replacing over fifty worn flange shields prior to the USS Frank Cable going through a Light off Assessment. Assisted in replacing the packing for two Main Condensate Pumps. Essential in the timely replacement of an Air Ejector Assembly, which greatly enhanced the efficiency of the Evaporator. Contributed in the cleaning of all four SSTG Lube Oil Sumps, which resulted in no debris within the Sumps. Single-handedly renovated and organized the divisional store room, improving the division’s ability to find materials more efficiently and improving the division’s performance during ship’s formal zone inspections. Successfully lead a team in the discharging of over 50,000 gallons of oily waste without incident.
