EXPERIENCE

Spectrum Accountable Care, Las Vegas, NV (December 2020-Present)

During this period, I am at one of the State Mental Hospitals in North Carolina. I was daytime charge-nurse on the most volatile unit in the hospital. I communicate with other shifts and treatment team members, daily, to make certain that the proper information is passed on and the appropriate duties carried out. As in the previous stint with Spectrum, I completely stopped all swallowing of inedible object and reduced the number of seclusions by asking the patient to take a PRN at the first sight of agitation, or request and “Ice Water Dive” or to attempt to calm down in E.T.O. as opposed to seclusion.

Spectrum Accountable Care, Las Vegas, NV (June 2018 – May 2019) Charge Nurse – Day shift

During this year long period that I was with Spectrum, I was at one of the State Mental Hospitals in North Carolina. I was daytime charge-nurse on the most volatile unit in the hospital. I communicated with other shifts and treatment team members, daily, to make certain that the proper information was passed on and the appropriate duties carried out. While there, I cut the swallowing/insertion risks, in half. I was also able to scale back a good bit of our exclusionary incidents and offer the patient E.T.O. as a less restrictive option.

Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland, MS (January 2018 – May 2018)

I was charge nurse on the evening shift of a gero-psych unit. I handed out meds, and regulated blood sugars, When I arrived the patients were not being bathed on a regular basis. I was able to change this. I had to communicate to the other nurses and techs that this was a hospital rule and it would be followed. When I left, every patient was being bathed once a day. (I worked this job between assignments with Spectrum)

Spectrum Accountable Care, Las Vegas, NV, (currently working in Goldsboro, NC)

(October 2017 – January 2018)

-Pulled and passed out meds, monitor blood sugars and give insulin, if necessary, round hourly, chart every shift. I really wasn’t used to my full potential. I could have communicated better with the patients on the day shift and carry ideas to the treatment team. I did effectively administer 0600 medications and reduced the number of medical errors to zero a month, for 3.5 months.

-

St. Dominic’s Behavior Health Center, Flowood, MS (May 2017 – October 2017).

-Rounded on patients, took vital signs, pulled and handed out meds, fed patients, cleaned patients, monitored glucose levels, gave insulin injections. The most important part of my job was to educate the patient and family. In most cases of mental illness, the family wants to know when the patient is going to be cured and of course, that isn’t usually what happens. I educated patients and family on the disease process, no matter what the disease and for the most part, let the family know that the patient will be better on medication but will never be 100% back to the patient that they knew before. This would be necessary when the patient is extremely sick with schizophrenia, Bipolar I or 2 or clinical depression. Those patient’s who just need a mild antidepressant, I encourage the family that he should, eventually be back to normal.

-

Med-Surg RN, Merit Health Services, Clarksdale, MS (January 2017 – May 2017)

-I rounded on patients, took vitals, pulled meds, gave meds, educated patients, educated family members, monitored glucose levels, gave insulin injections. This was my first job out of nursing school, and I wasn’t really certain as to what I needed to be doing. I did finally learn to perform admissions and discharges as this was happening quite frequently and was duly stressful to the other nurses. I helped where I could but honestly just learned enough to solidify the fact that I wanted to be a PMHNP.

Self-Employed, Phoenix Lawn Maintenance, Cleveland, MS (May 2016 – August 2016)

-I mostly carried out lawn maintenance with some minor landscaping. The job did give me experience with keeping the books (Balance Sheets and Income Statements).

ICU Extern, Greenwood, Leflore Hospital, Greenwood, MS (May 2015 – August 2015).

-I shadowed the charge nurse, pulled meds, passed out meds, monitored glucose levels, gave insulin injections, daily I’s and O’s. This was over a summer, in nursing school. The main thing that I picked up on is how to recognize dangerous heart rhythms on an EKG.

Probation Officer, Judicial Court Services, Oxford, MS (Moved to Biloxi in September) (May 2012 – January 2013).

-I monitored probationer’s progress and administered drug tests in accordance with court order. I was able to increase our monthly fine collection by about 15 %, while I was there. I literally spent hours a day calling probationees concerning their payments.

Counselor’s Assistant, The Oxford Centre Rehabilitation Facility, Oxford, MS (January 2012 – September 2012). - I performed minor case work which wasn’t part of my job, I just wanted to learn how. I occasionally led discussion groups with the patients, this became part of my job on the weekend because it came to a point where the counselors refused to work weekends.

Sub-Agent, Alfa Insurance, Oxford, MS (May 2008 - November 2008)

-I wrote consumer and commercial lines. I concentrated on commercial lines, as I had been a bank president, before and knew how to call on businesses. I increased the business lines quite a bit. Mostly through a $1M life insurance policy written on a contractor.

-

President, Bank of Commerce, Oxford, MS (March 2005 - April 2008)

-I started a branch, from scratch, identified new business prospects, called on prospects, underwrote proposals and priced loans and deposits, also handled the hiring of all branch employees and their management, turned a profit in 11 months. This is my proudest accomplishment. We were a very small bank and I couldn’t lend to any one entity more than $750,000. I was also competing with 10 other banks in a town of 13,000. When I left, my loan portfolio was $13,600,000 and my deposit portfolio was 21,000,000. This is all a major accomplishment
