Working on a 5-star train requires 5-star service in everything, including the restaurant. While on duty at the train-hotel, which operates high value low volume tours throughout the Southern African countries, I would work throughout each tour which would take anywhere from 6 days to 42 days. At Rovos Rail Tours I assumed various roles, working as a Hostess, Waitress and Bartender/Assistant Bar Manager. With Rovos Rail, full Level One first-aid training was provided, as well as training in fire-fighting and emergency procedures. On-going wine and beverage training was also provided to ensure the standard was upheld. Discipline in maintaining self-image and cleanliness was a must.

Duties included:

•Being responsible for up to 6 guest suites.

•Maintaining cleanliness and comfort.

•Attending to guest’s needs and wants.

•Delivering food and drinks to the suites as well as guest interactions and ensuring that they are happy and satisfied with service.

•Being responsible for up to 70 clients with a team of 5 to 6 persons.

•Ensuring dietary requirements are met and the correct food and drinks are handed out to the correct clients.

•Fast and efficient food service in a set menu environment with the exception of dietary requirements.
