Tribological Behaviour of Al-TiB2 composites fabricated by wire arc additive manufacturing
Additive Manufacturing is a technology that promises to reduce number of parts and material wastages. Wire arc additive manufacturing works by melting metal wire using an electric arc as a heat source and extruded in the form of beads over the substrate. Tungsten inert gas[TIG], Metal inert gas[MIG],Cold metal transfer[CMT],Laser additive manufacturing[LAM] are the main classiﬁcations of wire arc additive manufacturing. Wire arc additive manufacturing is suitable for making large scale metal parts, more freedom of moment and the size of the components is not limited. Among the various methods mentioned above, the MIG wire arc additive manufacturing has many advantages such as the MIG process can be operated several ways, including semi and fully automatic in addition to least expensive and highly economic. The objective of proposed project work is to manufacture the Al-TiB2 composites by using wire arc additive manufacturing and to investigate its tribological characteristics. MIG welding with argon gas is used to fabricate the composites. Effect of sliding speed, load and reinforcement ratio on wear rate, co-eﬃcient of friction and wear resistance is to be investigated in both longitudinal and transverse direction. The establishment of tribological behaviour Al-TiB2 composites manufactured by wire arc additive manufacturing will ﬁnd various real time applications.
