Executive Summary
ENGLISH, CREATIVE WRITING, COUNSELING
A three-legged stool, Sally Naylor aims to generate student enthusiasm whether teaching parallel structure the extended metaphor or active listening. During her tenure at the Baylor School her sixty students routinely generated 70+ awards and publications. She employs linear checklists & rubrics as well as right-brain, open-ended protocols. She encourages risk as she works to reduce student anxiety. Her models work for both creative and expository compositions. Literary analysis and reading comprehension skill-building are key. Required formal oral readings of original compositions develop public speaking poise and create community. She savors instructional design and has written curricula for gifted, English, creative writing, history and mental health classes. Naylor has also published three books of poetry, a memoir and a chapbook. First Light, is a creative writing textbook. She is finishing a self-help book, The Schlepp Factor, that distills the most effective self-help practices available, matching processes with personal preferences.
