ENGINEERING PROJECT

Evaluation of mechanical and tribological properties of 3D printed analogous thermos-plastic for bone implants The objective of the study is to come up with new materials for the replacement of bones. The scope of the project involves the manufacturing of two different biocompatible thermoplastics (PLA, ABS) in a uniform structure identical to the bone using 3D Printing technique. The materials were then tested for their mechanical properties such as tensile, compression and its resistance to impact loads. A comparison analysis was performed, which led to conclusions that PLA exhibits a better performance as compared to ABS. Further scope of the project would involve testing the material in environments simulating that of human body to conclude that the material is certified as fit foruse. INDUSTRIAL VISITS / TRAINING
