My name is Jose Perez. I am an international student athlete at Caldwell University. As I am about to graduate I have developed a great curiosity for the financial world. My previous two internships captured my attention and made me even more eager to learn and master the different business strategies that can help companies better their results by putting their resources to work at their most efficient level. I am not sure what my path will be but I am confident Novogradac & Company LLP is a company in which I can learn the best practices of the industry and develop experience interacting with clients.

I grew up in Canary Islands, Spain. Since a young age, my dad, who was instructed through the military service, raised me in the values of self-sacrifice and discipline. I carried out those values in the main two responsibilities of my youth, which where school and sports. I did very well in school, averaging 10 out of 10 my senior year of high school (4.0 GPA). Sports-wise, I worked extremely hard during the last 4 years of high school at a basketball academy called CBA. I improved my game and got an offer from Caldwell University to play basketball and continue my studies with a full scholarship.

Caldwell University gave me the opportunity to truly develop in the two areas of my life I invest the most time in: training and studying. During my time in the basketball I fully practiced and understood the role of a good teammate. Basketball is an amazing sport that has taught me values such as leadership, hard work and most importantly team work and accountability. On my junior year I switched to Track and Field, and it helped me develop a sense of individualism and self-actualization that I did not fully exercised during my basketball carrier. I believe I had the chance to learn all the positive things of a team sport and individual sport.

Academically, the first months were hard. I was struggling with the language. Nonetheless, I put a lot of work into learning English and I managed to get a 3.81 GPA my first semester at college. After my first semester, being able to participate in class became much easier as my English had greatly improved. In my sophomore year I was not feeling challenged enough by my business major. I felt I could do more, I was hungry for more, so I aimed for a much more ambitious goal. I changed to a double major in Financial Economics and Marketing and a minor in Global Business. Also, I decided to join the Honors Program, and the NSLS (National Society of Leadership and Success).

My two experiences as an intern taught me that even though I am an ‘A’ student, I know nothing about real situations in the business world. I am curious, hungry, and eager to learn more. The idea of knowing how to help companies enhance their results and understand where improvements can be made excites me. Knowing that someday my work and advice could help others achieve their goals amazes me. This is my passion, and I believe Novogradac & Company LLP to be a company that will challenge me to be the best I can be in the financial field and hopefully be able to help clients in the future.
