Work Experience
Food Service Technician
DownEast Community Partners - Machias, ME
August 2018 to Present
Food Service Technician at the Flaherty early childcare and education center (ECEC) for DownEast community partners. I prepare and serve infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and teachers with breakfast, lunch and snack under the USDA guidelines. I post our weekly menu for parents and guardians to take home. The menu is made by my nutrition manager with room for me to make a 'chef's choice' option. These menus provide children with the important nutrients for growth and development. I prepare a homemade breakfast with a whole wheat or whole grain side, such as toast, oats or granola. Breakfast also includes a fresh fruit and protein such as egg, peanut butter, or yogurt. My homemade lunch includes the same food items as well as a fresh vegetable. Chicken, turkey, or lean ground beef is also provided during lunch. Snack pertains two items out of whole grains, proteins, vegetables and fruits. All meals and snacks are served with whole milk or 1% milk. I need to be aware of all food allergies and make sure those children with food allergies have a nutritious alternative. I post a list on my refrigerator and cabinets of all child's names with allergies along with their allergy; therefore it is always in sight. I prepare the infants with organic, homemade baby food with any food that the parent has fed the infant before without problem. I also sterilize baby bottles. Toddler's meals are made easier to eat. I make sure i cut fruits, vegetables and meats in small pieces to prevent a choking hazzard. Meals are served family style to help the children serve themselves, help themselves to know when their stomaches feel full, and to try foods they may not have wanted to try at a different time. Children will also help me set their tables as I observe and help them. Other duties include washing dishes, cleaning, filling in for a substitute teacher if needed (in the classroom), budgeting, food production worksheets, grocery shopping, grocery purchase worksheets, baking, producing food related activities for the children (the children will help measure ingredients for healthy muffins, etc), recording refrigerator and freezer temperatures and making sure temperature is accurate, recording dishwasher temperatures, recording food temperatures, washing fresh foods, thawing, preparing and cooking food properly and safely, researching local events where parents and children can attend and learn nutrition and heath skills, working with parents nutrition goals of their child, attending needed trainings as well as wanted trainings. I grocery shop once a week for the upcoming week's menu. I maintain a budget and purchase appropriate, healthy food. Diapers, wipes and other classroom needs will be purchased as well. Teachers are asked if their classroom needs any diapers or supplies before I shop. Once I have finished grocery shopping and putting food away, I sort out food and non food items on a purchase form. Food safety is always my number one. I have earned my ServSafe certification. I have also earned my first aid CPR AED certification. I have completed a 4 hour safety training in addition to those certifications. In addition, I substitute teach for both the infant/ toddler room and preschool room when needed.

Retail Assistant
Main street consignment - Wilmington, MA
May 2010 to May 2012
I assisted with approving customers consignments. Under specific rules, only certain consignments could be approved to be sold in the store. A good eye for damages and item conditions were my specialty. Upon my approval of consigned items, I then appropriately tagged items with a specific number given to all our consigners. These items, numbers and consigners were programed for the future. Items would be neatly set out in correct spots in the store. Monthly, consigners would check in to see if any of their items have been sold. If so, they would make a profit of 40% of what it sold for. I would then proceed to hand out their cash percentages while making a log of it. Other duties included handling the cash register, guiding costumers and shoppers, opening and closing the store with key and alarm code, opening and closing the cash draw, cleaning, organizing and assisting my manager with "drop offs" which are when costumers would drop off items they wish to consign and leave the store. I would assist my manager on my thoughts of the items. I was eventually on my own with drop offs because of my eye to detail. Cashier/Customer Service
